My almost 5 years old daughter just got 2 immunization shots and the td test as she is starting school this year. Contrary to what the doctor said, that she could have fever, an angry red bump in her arm and probably be a little letargic, she is kind of hiper with no other syntoms! I keep asking her how is she feeling and she answers she is great!! I am fine with that but this unusual hiper stage on her makes me a bit worried. Have anyone experienced the same thing???

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My daughter is going back to normal. By reading all your opinions and recommendations, I found out a few things that could of triger her hyper stage as it could be the traditional lolly pop after the appointment and the ibuprofen to prevent fever. Maybe the combination of all these!!!?? Staying with her in her room doing nothing but watching nice movies and trying to keep her calm helped a lot. So, thank you all for your recommendations.

I'm not sure of the laws in CA but in NJ they can not force you to vaccinate your children to enter school. You can have medical reasons or religious reasons not to vaccinate in NJ. The majority of people think you have to in order for your children to attend public school. But in my research and evaluating the pro's and con's of vaccination what I have been told by many physicians and chiropractors alike is that waiting until your child is 5 is a great service to their immune sysytem. They are much stronger and also by that point have built up a lot of natural immunity to things so they might not have all the same reactions that are so typical. I have not vaccinated my children at all so i can't really help you with an answer that offers experience, but I would keep an eye on her hyperactivity. Of course it can be a reaction, she has a foreign substance in her body. One of the reasons I don't vaccinate is bc I do not agree with the one size fits all method. How can they tell you how your child's body will react to something like that? generally they are considered "safe" but tell that to the parents of children who have had horrendous reactions, even death. Ok, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to turn this into a vaccination debate! Anyway I would let the dr. know about the hyperactivity if it continues longer than you feel comfortable with it! Good luck and I hope it all works out!

Vaccines can cause a neurological effect. My son was extremely hyper.

She sounds fine. Getting into your car (a very large leathal weapon) and driving somewhere is way more dangerous than having your child vaccinated. And the scariest thing is when your child is the one who drives off in the car. It is true that vaccinations are not perfect. Nothing is. But my own mother's quality of life is now strictly inhibited because she suffers heart problems that came from a childhood disease that could be prevented now. Every time my phone rings for the last 10 years I jump expecting to hear that she needs to go to the hospital again.

In Washington there are medical, religious, and personal/philosophical exemptions for public school attendance. If your daughter is having any type of vaccine reactions, do some more research before continuing. My favorite books are the vaccine book by dr.sears, the sanctity of human blood, and the websites of dr. Tenpenny and www.thedoctorwithin.com. There is information on vaccine reactions and associated vaccines at www.nvic.org. Good luck!

Most likely being hyper has nothing to do with the vaccinations. It's likely to events that occurred at the same time. For all of those saying not to immunize - California is now in an epidemic of pertussis/whooping cough and there have been five infants 3 months or under who have died. Whooping cough in an infant is a horrible thing to watch. They cough & cough until they turn blue and often throw up as well. It's horrible! And it's preventable! How will you feel if your unimmunized child infects an infant and that infant dies? Aren't you morally responsible? In the hospital I work in we have had at least two of these deaths. When my 80 year old mother was four she was hospitalized for whooping cough. My grandparents overheard the doctors saying they weren't sure my mother would survive the night. Immunizations have worked and now the diseases are coming back because people don't understand how dangerous these diseases are. I'm sorry about being so blunt, but there are five families morning the loss of their precious baby.

Hello Veza, As the mother of 5 and the Nana to several I just want to tell you that it may just be coinsidence that the 2 things ae going on at the same time!
Most children at this age are in a state of transition and changing from toddler hood to little children/schhol ready age. So much is going on within their bodies and the changes make them a bit crazy and get you wound up as well.
The reaction from the shots would have only lsted a few days these changes and many more will be part of life until grown. Just remeber that you went through it yourself and your folks( or like me the people I lived with) made it through just fine so will you.
I have a granddaughter that is filled at age 8 she should be winning an Oscar any time now! Just part of life. Good Luck

Keep a very close eye on her, and don't give her any more shots. You can sign a waiver, do it.

Just be sure to have her chill out for the next few days if they were done today. Lay down with her to watch some movies and just relax. They are little and these immunizations are big in their bodies. They hyper part is expected with certain kids, just chill out and lounge around with her!

Your daughter seems to have no symptoms other than being fine, great, and a little "hyper".
Maybe she's happy that the shots weren't the big deal she thought they would be.
My kids had all their vaccinations on schedule and had no fevers or lethargy. It's not fun getting shots, but they were happy and fine afterwards.
Be glad she's not whiney or fussy!
They always tell you these things CAN happen, but it doesn't mean they will.
If your daughter is feeling great, I hope you won't consider withholding her vaccines in the future because she's seeming a little hyper.
It's only in recent years that not vaccinating has become an issue.
In my very large, extended family, no one ever thought twice about it and we have no children who were harmed by vaccinations.
It takes having one person in your family of the generation before the polio vaccine, who was crippled for life from the time they were a child, to know that you would do anything to prevent that happening to your children.

I think your daughter is just fine.
Best wishes!

Just curious if you premedicated before you took her in for her vaccine? Some moms give Ibprofen or Tylenol etc to help w/ the pain. I found by mistake that when my 2.5 yr old had to have a minor surgery they recommended dosing him with Children's motrin. I went out brought the off brand and thought nothing of it...But he was bouncing off the walls seriously 5 hrs after his procedure. Something I was clearly not expecting or warned about. My only logical conclusion it had to be something he ate..But he didn't really eat much b/c of the anesthesia. Long story short turns out the pain meds had dye in it...As the infant stuff I had previously gave him were dye free.

My point is there is probably another reason why she's a little hyper but I wouldn't take it as a reaction to the vax. It might be something as simple as a sucker she got afterwards, or as I have found out...No more children's motrin/Ibprofen for the little guy unless its dye free!!

Good luck and be glad she has no side effects. My oldest has always had the moderate reactions..Not fun at all

Blessings
Amy

Maybe she's just excited about starting school. It's an exciting time. I wouldn't worry about it. She's most likely picking up on your anxiety. Protecting against potentially deadly diseases (and more are making come backs) would make me feel she is as prepared as she can be to be mixing with the general public. When I started kindergarten, it seemed like I came down with everything that went around for about 2 years (I remember going to the nurses office a lot and barfing all the way). After that I hardly got sick at all. My son started day care at 3 months. And for the 1st 2 years he caught everything (hand, foot, mouth (I never had that one as a kid, so when he got it, I got it, too), etc), and by 3 he hardly got sick at all. My theory is, it takes 2 years of exposure to the general public to rev up the immune system.
