I was wondering if anyone knows of where I can take my husband and I could take our 7 year old girl and 16 month old girl for a weekend vacation close to Dallas without spending to much money. I was thinking something like Sea World but I would prefer not to spend over 500 for a 3 or 4 day weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Grapevine - they have festivals every weekend, it seems like, plus Great wolf lodge.
Granbury
Austin
Fredericksburg
Go Camping! There are lots of great parks to camp at - Cedar Hill, Perdinales Falls, Lake Ray Hubbard, endless options.

But, if I had a couple hundred to spare on family fun right now, I'd buy season tickets to 6 Flags. My neighbor has small kids and said she gets the passes and a parking pass every year. It's relatively slow, especially on little kid rides during the week in the evening. They have movie nights, and you can go to the Halloween stuff and Christmas stuff they do. It's a whole year of family fun rather than just a weekend. Just a thought because that's what I'm trying to fit in the budget right now.

I have never done this, but I know SEVERAL people that have taken kids those ages to Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine for the weekend. or a night.
We are venturing to SeaWorld next week with ours and I am only going now because my youngest is still under 3. My oldest is 3 and I am APPALLED that we are going to be paying 50.00 for a ticket to get into the place for a day...so I TOTALLY get that. We have a free place to stay, otherwise, no way we'd do it.

Glen Rose has some cool stuff as well, I know you can camp or stay the night down there if you are into that sort of thing.
It's under a 2 hour drive and you COULD do it in one day

if you are looking for a neat DAY thing to do Wylie has a COOL big cat rescue place that is 10.00 and kids under 5 (i think) are free. It is tax deductable, but we spent 2 hours there and easily could have gone more if it wasn't nap time! we will for sure go back again many times.

Glen Rose is a fun weekend getaway. You can visit Dino World, Dinosaur State Park, and Fossil Rim (drive thru safari park). Prices vary by day at Fossil Rim I think, so weekends might cost a bit more than weekdays. There is also a show geared towards dinosaurs which may only run certain times of year since it's an outdoor show. Creation Museum is in Glen Rose and it's only open certain days of the week. You aren't too far from Granbury which has a nice lake and shopping too. You can camp at the state park, but there are also plenty of hotel choices in both Glen Rose and Granbury as well.

I have also heard Tyler is a fun place for the weekend. They have an indoor water park, some type of wildlife drive thru or rescue operation, and a really nice children's museum I believe.
