Anyone had one? Did they rx you antibiotics? I hate taking any medications during pregnancy... but I also know that an infection could be bad if left untreated. I am not sure I have one, just have some little symptoms. I do plan to talk to my doctor. Just wondering if any of you ladies dealt with a UTI during pregnancy, and how it was handled.

Thanks, ladies!

So What Happened?

I've heard of applying yogurt for a yeast infection, but a UTI?

ETA: Went to doc and he confirmed my suspicion... put me on Macrobid. Thanks ladies!

I had them constantly with my 2nd pregnancy and half the time I never knew I had them. I was put on antibiotic would be off 2 weeks and get another infection. My daughter is perfectly healthy now and was at birth. I do believe it is a common thing.

Besides eating yogurt and drinking cranberry juice - apply yogurt directly.
Next time you take a bath, add 1 cup of plain yogurt to your bath water.

They usually do prescribe antibiotics. There's a wide range that's safe to take during pregnancy, you just have to trust your doctor. If it goes untreated you could end up with kidney problems or bladder problems, the least of which would be blood in your urine and worsening symptoms.

I had one with my first pregnancy when I was about 7 months along, my OB prescribed an antibiotic that was completely safe to take during pregnancy...I would definitely see the doctor and get it treated right away. My son was born completely healthy. Good luck and feel better soon!

I was diagnosed with a UTI at the beginning of both of my pregnancies. I have tried drinking a ton of water, cranberry juice, pills, nothing worked. I didn't have typical symptoms of a UTI. I didn't even know I had one until I finished my antibiotics and could tell the difference. The antibiotic they put me on was Macrobid (I think). Definitely get checked out because it can be a big deal while you are pregnant and it needs to be treated as soon as possible. You might have something else going on.

I had a ton with my last pregnancy. I even drank cranberry juice and ate yougart to try to help out and nothing worked. Every time I had to be prescribed med's. It got to the point where I had to go do a pee test every two weeks to check for it. :( Everything turned out great with baby though.

You can also buy at home kits just to check it before you go to the doctor if you don't want to waste a trip or don't think you have the time.
