Hello everyone. I am 46 years old and my periods started changing about 4 years ago. they became heavier and lasted longer. I have been getting ultrasounds which only had shown thickness of the uterus. 2 years ago i had a uterine biopsy and that test was normal. I had a pelvic ultrasound last week and i went today for my results and the doctor told me this showed abnormally thickened uterus and possible polyp on uterus. she could not do a biopsy today because i'm bleeding a little but she will be doing the biopsy in a few days once i have stopped bleeding. I am so nervous and hoping someone has some advice.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all who have responded to my concerns!! I am hoping that when i get the biopsy it will be negative this time too. I guess what is getting me so nervous is this new ultrasound i had done almost 2 weeks ago. I have a copy of the one i had in January of last year and i compared them and this one i just had has all these things they found, like the fibroid, cysts on my ovaries, the polyp on my uterus, none of these things were seen in last years ultrasound . I am just so concerned it could be something bad.

I had uterine polyps about 4 years ago. Discovered when I had a ruptured ovarian cyst, which was very painful and may have led to early detection of the polyp (I don't remember much with other symptoms). they put me under to remove it, I was in and out in a day, and don't recall any problems with it. Try to relax and expect the best. A polyp is really pretty straightforward and easy to deal with, you'll be fine!

I had them a couple of years ago and my periods were so heavy (I would have to get up at least three times during the night to change the sheets). My Dr did a procedure (I can't remember the name) that removed the lining of my uterus. This was done as an outpatient in the hospital and I get the symptoms of a period but no bleeding. I have had biopsies in the past for them and there might be a slight pain when they remove the tissue, but it only lasts seconds. Like someone pinching you. Hang in there and try not to stress out, if the past tests were negitive this will probably be too.

I had some polyps removed last February and found it to be a very simple procedure. They do give you anesthesia and I did not wake up in any pain. My Dr. suggested using a heating pad for comfort and that too really helped. I had to refrain from any strenuous activity for a week. Since the surgery, my periods have been much more manageable and shorter....I was spot bleeding for 3 weeks out of the month prior to!! Best of luck to you!

I've had a uterine polyp removed on two separate occasions. The surgery was fine. It only took about a 1/2 hour total but afterwards, I did have to wait about a hour before I was able to leave the hospital. After the anesthesia wears off, it does hurt like really really bad cramps so I suggest you ask for pain medications before leaving the hospital.

I have heard that they will make periods more painful & more bloody than usual.I don't have any information or know of anyone who this has occured wtih.I do know that after my deliveries my uterus becomes floppy & doesn't want to retract as it should after having a baby causing bleeding, after this baby i'm thinking of having my uterus removed,if this is an option for you I would do it.I also don't have any information to this procedure or how it is done it will be iscussed at my next urology appt. also not a bad idea to see a urologist that specializes in femal reproduction to me they will have more knowledge than a Gyno this is all they do for women
