Using Online Digital Camera Tools/programs

I have a digital camera and take way too many pictures of my little ones. I'm wondering if anyone has specific feedback of the variety of programs to edit and share photos. I have used KodakEasyShare in the past. And, also Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition. I have an HP Printer and some software came w/it. Basically I am not super computer savy and want to use the best all around program. I can always share photos on Shutterfly. But the editing is the item I'm most interested in. Oh, and the least expensive would be nice also.

I have had good luck with the Photoshop Elements program. It lets you do basic things like crop, fix red eye, etc, as well as more complex things. I think it was about 100$.

Adobe Photoshop Elements is awesome.

I used to use the full version as a professional, and I now use Elements at home... it has almost every single feature as the pro version (which runs almost $700!), so you get great bang for your buck!

It's also got a built-in photo organizer that rocks. I cross-reference photos by date, who's in them, where they were taken, etc. So if I'm thinking, "Oh, where's that photo of Aunt Susan and my son at the park?" I can put those parameters in and voila!

I have friends who scrapbook with it, too.

The learning curve isn't nearly as steep as people will make you think. I learned to use it mostly from the tutorials that came on the program disk... I'm sure you can find them at adoble.com if they're not on the Elements disk.

You'll love it, it's so much fun!

Hi... I just wanted to chime in with a response to your question.
I am a professional photographer... or, atleast I play one on the weekends. :)
I would highly reccomend Adobe Photoshop. I believe you can pick up the latest version of Elements for about $100.00. This is the program that I started with before I knew anything about Digital Retouching and I loved it. It wasn't too hard to learn and there are TONS of free tutorials on-line that walk you through the basics.
The reason that I reccomend Adobe is because once you see what you can do with the software you may want to learn more and you can always upgrade to a higher version if you ever find that you're feeling limited by Elements.
But... in all honesty Elements did everything that I needed it to do until I went pro. Then I upgraded to CS2.
If you have any questions feel free to message me. I'm happy to help!

Google has a photo editing tool that's free and packed with features. It's called Picasa, and you can download it from http://picasa.google.com. Give it a try and see if you like it. Good luck.

Have you tried Picassa? It is a free download from Google that I love. The editing is fun but not complicated, and Picassa allows you to upload your photos to online photo albums that can be viewed either with an invitation, or publicly. The albums can also be linked easily to blogs. Prints can easily be ordered through various vendors like Snapfish, and there is also a feature that will email small pictures so that recipients don't get those photos that take up the entire screen and you can only see a small portion.

The only thing Picass lacks is the ability to print the albums as books - that would make it perfect in my opinion!

P.,
I use a Creative Memories program called Memory Manager to edit/organize my photos. The cost is $39.95 and it is really user friendly. You can print at home or order prints online. I also download my pic's into the Creative Memories Photocenter where you can share them for free. There is also another program I use to make digital books. It is really easy to use, mostly click and drag and add font. The digital books come out looking really professional. That program is Storybook Creator Plus and is $59.95. I love their digital products so much I sell them. If you would like to check them out my website is www.mycmsite.com/mefford. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Can I suggest you download to some place like Shutterfly or Snapfish or any of those. That way you have online albums for family to see, you can order CDs of all your pics and have them for safe keeping too.
I can say printing pictures yourself can get pricey. The photo paper is really expensive. Most major places now have where you can take your memory card, put it in a machine there in the store, grocery, target, walmart, walgreens and look at your pictures and order what size, how many of each and so forth. You can do it overnight, one hour or whatever you want. It is much simplier, you aren't using much money to print off pics. I load all my pics to Shutterfly, then keep them on my computer too. Every year I order a CD of the pics for that year from Shutterfly for $10, they mail it and I put it in the safe for protection. I used to order from Shutterfly the pics, but now do it at my local grocery store for 10 cents a print! You cannot beat that.
Shutterfly offers where you can put them in cool books, mouse pads and so forth too for not a lot of money, great gift ideas.
I personally just don't like printing as it is too expensive from home.
Most services you can edit them from there too as they have tools you can use. Good luck.

I use the KodakEasyShare for the editing I love it. For the sharing of pictures I use a Blog it's free. With the blog you can put a story with the pictures. You can send the website to all the people that you would like to. So that way they can view it whenever they would like. I have gotten great comments from family and friends since I started it back in June. It's just alot easier than e-mailing pictures out all the time. Oh yeah I don't use my kids real names on the blog that way people that I don't know won't get their names. Here is my blog. Check it out see if this is what you are looking for to share your pictures.
http://roostersweetiepie.blogspot.com If you want to print the pictures I usally take them to Walmart and pick and choose what you want to print. Make a cd for the rest. It does get a little costly if you do it at home. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're asking for, but my family uses www.easysite.com to share pictures and news with family around the country. It costs me $5 each month and I have a website that I can upload photos, music, and videos to (although I have yet to figure out the video part). I am by no means a computer genius and the site is called easysite for a very good reason. It's SUPER easy! It also has a space for a blog so you can write lengthier messages for family and friends. This site does have editing capabilities as well. We have no family within 1000 miles of us so it's nice to be able to upload pictures as often as I want and then send an email out to everyone letting them know there's new stuff on the website. You can check mine out at www.easysite.com/MitchellClan Have fun and GL!

I also love the Memory Manager 2.0 program. The cool things it can do are amazing. I LOVE the cloning feature-I call it my instant wieght loss program;)The way you can choose to organize your photos really lets me organize the way that works best for my brain. It is worth every penny! I actually ended up buying a second program to put on my laptop so I can work on my pictures when I'm not home.If you are familiar with photo shop adobe - this has alot of the same features, but MUCH easier to learn and use! Creative Memories actually put out a 10 minute video that shows you the program for free. If you go to www.mycmsite.com/tonyawildwoman then click on Help Zone then Digital it will has a link called "It's a Digital Life." Prepare to sit back and be amazed ;) If you have any question, feel free to contact me. This is the only way I get anything done with my pictures with 3 kids under 8 at my house. LOL

A few others have already mentioned this but my vote is for Picasa from Google. It is FREE. And super easy and if you aren't a photo guru and don't need alot of fancy stuff (just the ability to crop, remove red-eye, etc.) it's the best thing out there. Did I mention it's FREE? Seriously, for someone who doesn't need a lot of bells and whistles and takes a ton of pictures it's a great program to organize and print/adjust all your digital pics. I love it.

To edit, I have iPhoto, but Picasa is a good one.
To share, the best of all we know, is a www.flickr.com site.
It's a professional site which means you copyright your photos,
and people can comment under photos, which is HUGE fun.
Mine is
www.flickr.com/photos/niravameen/
have a look around.
You can keep it simple and then it will cost you nothing,
or you get the whole package for about 25 bucks per year. Then, you copyright your photos, and it is all official. many professionals use this site, because it is absolutely safe, and a very friendly environment!
enJoy !!! :)

picasa2 is made by google and completely free. i haved used it for several years and really like it. just like easy share (which i have also used and didn't like nearly as much) you can even order print through the editing software. picasa will even give you free web alsum space that you can put pictures on and invite friend and family to see. just type in picasa in the google search and the place to download it should come right up.

Picasa! It's free. I am a photo nut, and I use PhotoShop all the time, but for fast cropping and editing, I always use Picasa.
It lets you crop to various sizes and save it as a different file. So if you have a nice photo that you want to print as a 5x7, you'd crop it using their 5x7 tool and save it as a separate file. Then you'd go back and crop it to a 4x6 and save that as a different file so you could print some copies to send to grandma :)
It also has tools for converting to black and white, sepia, soft focus, etc. You can adjust the contrast if the blacks aren't truly black and the whites aren't really white.
And the best part is that you can upload your photos to an online album with one click! As you look through your photos and tinker with them, you click "hold" and it will hold it for you in your "tray." Then when you click upload, it uploads all the photos in your tray.
Oh, and you can add captions to the photos right there in the program before you upload. I didn't know that for a while, so I'd add the captions after I uploaded. It's much easier to do it before-hand.
If you'd like to check out my picasa web album, here's the address:
http://picasaweb.google.com/susielancaster
You can set your albums to be private so you have to invite people to see your photos. Mine are public so anyone can see them.
To get it, go to http://picasa.google.com/
You may have to sign up for a google account. I also love Gmail. It's great because when I'm signed into my Gmail account (which is always) I'm also signed in to Picasa. Gmail also has chat right in your inbox! I use it to talk to my husband while he's at work. It's less obtrusive than a phone call.

Walgreens online photo albums are great because you can share them with your friend and family and then they can order prints if they like. It is completely free and you can create as many albums as you like. It is super easy to use as well. It is also password protected and very safe. LOVE IT!!
