Using Colace

Has anyone used colace before? My son is six and has just started to use it. I have tried putting it in milk, OJ, juice, and the latest cranberry grape juice. He does not like the taste at all. The cranberry grape juice seems to be the best so far, but it is still not easy to get him to drink it. I just wondered if anyone has any suggestions on what other drink to put it in, or ways to make it easier for him to take it.
Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thank you to all of you who responded to my question regarding the use of Colace. I tried the Kool-Aid and applesauce, but had the best results with the extra strong chocolate milk. My son was so excited that he could not taste the medicine(which has a bitter taste) and is excited that he gets chocolate milk(just a little amount) twice a day! I hope to try the strawberry milk too, for a change. Thank you so much!

when my son was younger, i used to mix one tablespoon of strawberry syrup in 2 ounces of milk then put his meds in it, he couldn't taste the difference at all. good luck.

I am a shaklee distributor and I feel compelled to let you know that there are nutritional ways of helping your little one. Some times you have to take care of the bottom up (if you will) It could be as simple as starting him on a probiatic to help his colon area. Nutritionally this problem has been sooo doable. Love to hear from you

You could mix it up in a small amount of apple sauce or pudding to get it down him. We had to do this at the state hospital sometimes with our MRDD residents, they took it and never spit it back out.

K., I am not sure of the exact situation, but it sounds like there is some sort of either constipation issue or it is too hard/dry/big that he doesn't want to go, maybe scared? I would like to hear more details in case it is anything like what my daugther experienced for many years. We used miralax. It is OTC now, but didn't used to be. It is a powder that is odorless, tasteless, no texture. you could put it in water, and no one would know it. let me know if you want more info about it.

Thanks!

I take care of several MR/DD people and they have to use it due to the medications backing them up. We use instant kool-aid (the plastic container that is per sweetened) and we do it by the glass and make the drink a little stronger or you can make "sour-aid" which is 2 packets of your fav. flavor and 3/4 of a cup of sugar in a 2 quart pitcher. both work well.

I used to work in a group home and one of our residents had to take pericolace, not sure if that's the same thing or not, but we mixed his in strong chocolate milk. It was the only way he would take it. Only problem was that we would have to give him the sludge from the bottom with a spoon. There was so much chocolate there that he didn't seem to mind though. Hope that helps.
