Using Avent Bottles

I uesd avent bottles and some times the rings would leak if you put the milk, juice, etc in cover it then shake a little oyu will be able to tell right away if it will leak if so if you open and wipe the inside of the ring and the top of the bottle then put the ring on tight it should solve the prob hope this is helpfull.

We too have that problem, and besides screwing the tops on too tight, my husband swears that you have to turn the top a little to the right until it drops down, then turn it left to screw it on. I was very interested in the responses since we have been going through the same thing. I have tried other bottles (including glass even flo ones) but my daughter wouldn't take them. I thought the FDA had said all bottles were safe after looking into it, but I could be mistaken. I don't heat her formula up so it's not an issue for us anyway. Good luck :)

I used Avent bottle. Do you mean they are leaking through the nipple holes, or just leaking out the side?

Since they are the faster flow nipple, I would find if you tip it, it will leak out the holes.

A few times I experienced it leaking out the side, where you screw the white ring on. Just make sure the nipple is really locked into the white ring, and make sure you have the screw rings lined up straight when you screw the cover on.

I really enjoyed these bottles and they were easy to clean.

Wow, that's so funny! My youngest is now 6 and I remember being so frustrated with the same thing! I guess they never fixed the problem over all these years. Yes, you can do the "tighten, untighten" tricks, but it will still eventually happen again and you'll be stuck with a sticky mess...again. Unless you/your little only wants Advent, I'd suggest switching to save your future sanity! Good luck!

I have used Avent bottles all along, my son is 15 months old now and using the bottles as a sippy cup. When they leak I take them all apart (take the nipple out of the white ring) and then I boil all the nipples, rings, and bottles. Then I made sure to have it snug and not on super tight. I hope that helps. I only had them leak a handful of times, but that was very annoying. If the cleaning didn't work for me I would have switched to another brand. Oh, a friend also reminded me that you might want to buy new nipples every 3 months (I think that was the normal time we had to go up to the next level anyways) and that would help stop the leaking.

yes, this used to happen to me!! It drove me nuts too. I used to put the nipple and ring on the bottle as normal, but before tightening it, I went the opposite way a few times (as if I was unscrewing it) and then tighten it gently. The inner flap gets bunched and allows leakage. I hope it works for you. Sometimes I had to try it a few times.

We had the same problem. My daughter used the Avent and LOVED them (the small 4oz ones) and also the Soothie bottles. Once she was into the larger bottles I could not for the life of me get through a feeding with the Avent bottles without a mess! So we got rid of them and now use only the Soothie bottles. this might sound crazy but... if you screw the white part on to the bottle to tight they leak! We had the same problem and found that the white ring has to be tight but not to tight. Give it a try and see if it helps you too.

You can't close them too tight. Ifetn when my husband closes a bottle he tries to make the top really tight and thats when it leaks.

We went through that too....when the nipple or the screw cap is the slightest bit wet it will leak. Also, make sure to pull the nipple through tightly enough so the seal tight around the edge. HOpefully that helps!

With my first son now almost 6 I used Avent and hated it. They always leaked!! Now with my second son (1yr) I used gerber glass when not nursing. Please be careful, Avent does contain BPA in there bottles! This is a harmful chemicle and has been ban from many plastics. Green to Grow bottles are a great alternitive with no hamful leaching chem. If you tighten the bottle too tight the ring around the nipple folds and leaks.

Yes - this is frustrating. I mentioned it to a friend who happened to use them too. She actually called the manufacturer about the issue. They told her to tighten the cap on then slightly loosen it. Once I started doing this it worked. Try it to see if it works for you too.

Everyone I know complains about those bottles. My sister told me not to get them said they leaked with her youngest daughter who is now 11! So I guess since 11 years ago they still haven't fixed the issue. I would try Dr. Brown's bottles although they are a pain because they have too many parts to them or the NUK bottles (my son loved both). Good luck!
