Definetly get two controllers. And the charging station - otherwise you will spend a TON on batteries. Dancing games are good. My 7 yr old daughter likes World of Zoo and Wii Sports Resort the best too.
Hey all,
I am totally clueless about wiis, but my daughter wants one, and I think we're going to do it this year. I have what I think is a great deal lined up, but I have one big concern. Part of what she wants is a game for it which she describes like this: it's like 3-D, and you can go into the world and be the character in the adventure, not just control it. Do you know what game this might be?? Not much to go on, I know, but I'm worried it might be from another game system even, because all video games might be "wii" to her.
That's the most important Q, but other advice would be welcome, like is it really good to have an extra controller or nunchunk (whatever that is)? Are the black and white the same except for color? Good games for a just-turned seven year old? I know they're coming out with a new version next year, but that's okay. I don't think she's old enough to worry about that, and I figure used games might get cheaper.
Thank you, thank you! The baby is napping, and I'm eating lots of chocolate, so prompt replies are sooo appreciated!

Thanks, all. We got the Wii (factoring in everything including price of console, games, accessories!), and I'll be sending the G'parents a game list! I really appreciate the advice, especially during this busy time. The search feature would be more useful if sorted by date for posts like this, but the search helped a little too. ;-)

It sounds like the Skylanders game. You actually buy little figures that you put on a little circle and they appear in the game. My 6 year-old loves the games Mariokart, Just Dance Kids, SportsResort. The colors mean nothing, just what matches your decor. The systems usually only come with 1 controller, so it's good to buy a least 1 more, Kids usually like to play with at least 1 more person.
the game she is talking about is Super Mario 3D Land on the Nintendo 3DS system. I seen the comerical for it last night.
Yes all Wii's are the same, doesn't matter the color. I would get the extra controller, its always nice to have when they have guests over to play also.
There is a super mario world 3D but I thought that was only for 3DS.
If they are the character it is a role playing game or RPG. I don't see any for Wii that is 3D. My son has the Super mario one but it is for a different system. All I am seeing for Wii is Paper Mario which is really old.
One thing I want to mention is since getting their 3DS and that we have Xbox, my kids stopped playing with their Wii. You may want to look into a used one through Gamestop or talking with them about options. If we didn't have it since forever, or when it first came out, we would never buy a Wii now.
I have seen a game for Wii that has some sort of 3D character that goes along with it. Am not sure what it is or how it works, though.
As for the controllers, it is best to have at least 2 (sets--a set being a "Wii-mote" and a "nunchuk" as they usually work together). Each player will need to have a pair to play at the same time. The colors are irrelevant. We actually have 3 and mix and matched the skins on them. So one is white w/black, one is black w/ white and one is all black. :)
ETA: Just checked. The game I was thinking about was Skylanders. It is NOT 3D and there do not appear to be any 3D games for Wii. Skylanders is rated 10yrs and up.
For a 7 yr old girl, the Just Dance games are fantastic. There have been several other questions over a span of time on this site specifically about Wii games. Maybe you can use the search feature (?) and look under Wii games?
