Hey mamas,
Well the short of it is I was away for the weekend and forgot to take my birth control pill for a couple days. My husband just got a vasectomy but has yet to be cleared for duty ;) He actually will get checked this week. Anyway when I got home I was sooooooo tired so when the lovin' mood struck I was not thinking at all about having missed a couple pills. So now I am a bit concerned. I am nursing full time so I have that in my favor but still. So now I think I should get off the pill and just use other methods just in case bc I have heard that taking the pill while pregnant can harm the baby especially early in the first trimester. What would you do, stay on the pill and roll the dice or get off and use other methods until you could take a pregnancy test to make sure. Thanks ladies.

So What Happened?

ok, let me clear a couple things up: my baby is 4 months old, I have no cycle at this time and with my other two did not get a cycle until I stopped nursing. My concern about getting back on the pill is that even the slim possibility of being pregnant and possibly harming a baby, but I don't want to get prego at all, so if I am not I so want to keep it that way! The Plan B would never be an option for me personally. The pill I am on is the mini pill and is taken every day of the month. I really want to know if anyone has been in this situation and what you did, did you take the pill and were pregnant and the baby ended up being ok or did you get off and then end up prego, I just wanted a bit of experience. Thanks to all of you who have answered so far though, hope this is more clear, I am typing this on a day that is just bananas so maybe I am not expressing myself well!

Look up the website for the pill you are on. Most of them have a faq on what to do if you miss doses.

Plenty of people take the pill until they miss their period. I'd keep taking it and be safe for the next 2 weeks. Your nursing and you were taking it until then so I;d say your chances are low but not impossible. if you're concerned call your ob though

This is what you do if you miss pills:

If it were me I'd get the morning after pill, but that's because I'm on Progestin-Only Pills and a pill is considered "missed" if I'm three hours late taking it. I have an alarm set on my phone to remind me to take my pill at the right time every day.

My SIL took the pill while pregnant with her first child and now her third (found out she was pregnant--surprise! while taking the pill--she forgot to take a week, knew she was ovulating, but figured continuing to take the pill would keep her from getting pregnant-wrong). Anyway, her son was perfectly fine. I would bet that millions of women who had pill failures continued to use the pill while pregnant and had healthy babies. If you ever watch "i didn't know I was pregnant" on TV, there is at least one woman per episode that took it her entire pregnancy. when I had a miscarriage last year the doctor told me there was very little that I could take or do that would have caused the miscarriage. If your hubby is almost all clear and you are ready to give up the pill for good, then stop. Call your doc if you have any questions, but I don't think you have to worry about it harming your baby (if you can take it while breast feeding, it is usually okay for pregnancy).

It really has more to do with where you are in the cycle but chances are very good you could not get pregnant.

If you really don't want to be pregnant, go to the pharmacy right now and take Plan B, and use back up until your husband is cleared or you have been back on for a month.

If you'd be OK with being pregnant, continue to take the pill. I was on the pill for the first few weeks of my last two pregnancies. Check with your OB if you're concerned.

Because you are breastfeeding, are you on the mini pill? With that one, you'd better hope that your husband is shooting blanks right now or get on Plan B or you may very well be greeting your next blessing in 9 months.

I know a lot have said to take the morning after pill but you said you are nursing full time so I would talk to your dr and make sure that is safe to take before you do. Cause it might effect your milk.

Where are you in your cycle? I you were on your 3rd week of pills, you are probably ovolating and i'd say get off and use condems until you know for sure, otherwise start em back up and next time use a condem. ; )

I doubled the dose when I would miss a day. That's what you are supposed to do. I would see where you are in your cycle and go from there.
