My license expires in March of 2104 and I went to the SOS office over the holiday break (only a 1 ½ wait this time compared to 3 hours last!) Finally received my new mug shot and license yesterday in the mail only to discover it expires in 2017. I thought in the state of Michigan it was ever 4 years that it expires? Mine expires in 3 years… Did they pass a new law to get more money out of us? Am I getting old a need a crazy person check every 3 years now? I do not have any tickets (knock on wood) or violations but I do have a CPL...
So it is correct, and I am getting a penalty for renewing early. Here is what a SOS rep said: Unfortunately because you renewed early (more than 45 days before expiration) the computer automatically calculates your expiration date from your last birthday in 2013, therefore the expiration date is correct for March of 2017.
In TX it is 10 years for renewal unless you are a new driver.
When daughter got her DL at 16 she had to renew at 17 and at 18. The one she got at 18 expires when she is 21 and at that time she'll get the horizontal positioned DL which indicates age 21. That one will be good for 10 yrs.
In your state it should expire in 4 years on your birthday. So if yours expired a while ago (sometime in 2013) then 4 years after that would be your birthday in 2017.
In Massachusetts it's every 5 years on your birthday - my last one expired in 2012 but I didn't renew until 2013 so I only have 4 years with this license because it will expire in 2017, based on when I should have renewed it, not when I actually did.
When we moved to AZ in 2003, I was shocked to see mine expires in 2032. (I'd have to look to be exact). I believe it's when you turn 65. I thought it was a typo and the girl at the counter just laughed at me. I wish it was after 4 years, our crazy drivers are always in accidents and a more recent and consistent renewal would not be a bad thing.

Mine is from AK and is good for 5 years.
I renewed mine in 2012 and it expires on my birthday in 2016...4 years. Anything is possible in Michigan. Our state has been going downhill for several years. It would not surprise me if we have to renew in 3 years.

In TN they expire "on the 5" - translation, on your birthday that ends in 5 or 0. Example - I went and got my MC endorsement for my license when I was 38, I had the option of just adding the endorsement and coming back in 2 years to renew, or renew then (for a little more $$) and come back in 7 years when I turned 45 (tough decision!! LOL - NOT)
well i'm in FL - and just renewed my license last year in 2013. it expires in 2021.
I think Texas has a 5 year license now but my Texas license used expire anywhere from 3-6 years - the state chooses at random. The cost of the license is essentially by year. So while you are paying more at once for a 6 years license, per year it is the same. You can get a picture taken that is good for 10 years and renew your license online every other renewal period.
I got VA license in 2010 and it expires in 2018
According to the michigan.gov website, licenses are valid for "up to" four years, but I haven't found why that might be less.
Wisconsin: Just renewed mine in fall. It expires in 2021 (8 yrs).
I went right as they opened and waited about 5-10 min! Woo Hoo!! Last time, in the middle of the day, the wait was hours, with a toddler in tow.
