CA License Renewal

My husband just received his license renewal from the CA DMV. According to the paper sent, he is required to pay the regular renewal fee plus a reissue fee of $55. After looking this fee up, we have found out that it is for when your license has been suspended, however, my husband's license has not been suspended! We have actually been living in GA for just over a year now (military). We are able to keep our licenses from our home state until they expire, and then we can get a GA license. I have already done this with no problem. My husband will be needing to do this in Feb. but you have to turn in a valid license that has expired no longer than 2 years ago. I am currently on a 1 hour waiting period for a call back call from the DMV, but I am wondering if this mix up will affect my husband's ability to get a new license in GA. Has this situation happened to anyone else? Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

You will only find out the answer by calling the California DMV.
You can also call your insurance company - they typically get information on suspended licenses, tickets, etc. so they might be able to tell you something as well.

If his license expires in February, it should NOT be a problem for getting one in Georgia.

Thank your husband for his service and sacrifices to our country. I am a grateful American for his service.

If your hubby's license has not yet expired, he should be able to turn it in in GA and get his GA license. I don't know why DMV would be asking for a re-issuance fee. That is only if the license has been revoked or suspended and may include expiration, but if it's not yet expired, I don't get it.

Why not just go in to GA-DMV and apply for the license. His CA is still valid and he only has one month. I changed my NC to VA in July, even though it didn't expire until Nov. I would just go in, bring the valid CA license and go from there.
My husband got a GA license with a DUI on his Illinois license. THey never looked and they never asked him for it. Mind you this was a few years back.

CA-DMV was not too helpful with us while we were stationed there. Hope they are able to fix this mess for you.
