Unused Formula

Prior to the birth of my child, I had received a lot of the 'sample' formula cans, in a variety of 'types' (soy, etc.) from a few different companies.

I took the ones I knew I would not be using to my pediatrician's office to give away to families who could use them.

I suppose you can sell anything on ebay with some patience.

I will say, though, that I know local food banks are always desperate for donations of infant formula. It's not something people think to buy for donation, but for moms who are among the working poor, it's a vital necessity. You could deduct it as a charitable contribution on your taxes, and it would be a real help to people who need it.

I am not sure about selling them, but what we did was donate the unused cans we had left after both our boys were finished. You could try a food bank, a women's shelter, Children's services, or call a WIC office.........as long as they're unopen any one of these will accept them!!!

Cindy, if they are unopened, the store where you bought them should take them back with/without a reciept

While the food pantry is a great suggestion if you need the cash they will sell on ebay i sold a ton of extra formula, just make sure you put the can size and experation date in your listing so ppl don't have to ask. or you could post it on your local freecycle.com page and give it away.

I listed free Enfamil coupons on Craigslist and they were spoken for within an hour!! And best thing about Craigslist...NO FEES!!

I think Stacy's suggestion to contribute it to a local food bank is a great idea. One I never would have thought of.

If you don't want to do that, I have seen formula on Ebay or maybe another Mamasource mom would buy them.

Sometimes my kids' school has a food drive and they were more than willing to take the formula (powder). You can also look toward your local girl scout troop as they often hold food drives too.

Perhaps you could donate it to the local Women's Shelter?
Mix it into milkshakes for your kids?

Yeah I have purchased used formula from e-bay. As long as it has not been opened and you add in the expiration date so that way people know how long they have to use the cans. You should have no problem selling them. Just make sure that you take a picture and package the products and then get them weighed so that the people know how much it weighs and so that you know how much it is going to cost to ship it and not get stuck with a huge shipping bill. If you plan on donating your cans of formula, Womanline in the Oregon District or Elizabeth New Life Center which has multiple locations in the Dayton area are two great places. I have a friend you works for Elizabeth New Life Center and I gave her all my unused baby items, including baby food. My understanding of this program is that women who go there have to attend classes on parenting, etc for which they earn points which they can spend in the shop to purchase the formula, baby food, etc. Womanline is always taking donations of diapers, formula, toys, etc to pass on to lower income families.

Yes!!! If the exp. date is still in the future, you can get really good money for unopened cans of formula on Ebay. I was selling formula coupons and making a decent profit just selling the coupons! And those free sample cans that you get after having a baby, I sold those too for good money. As long as you sell it for less than what you can buy it at the store, people will pay.

I've seen people sell these cans to Once Upon a Child. I'm not sure what you would get for them. Just an idea.
