Universal Florida

We are heading to Florida next week and plan on going to DisneyWorld one day and Universal the next. I see there are two parks at Universal and I can't afford the pass that allows us to go to both. Any suggestions on whether to go to Islands of Adventure or the regular Universal Park? My kids are 11,9, 9 but the younger ones are only 50" - so miss the largest rides. I want those we go on to be lots of fun.

What can I do next?

Islands of Adventure has a lot more of the thrill, high speed rides and of course the Harry Potter ride. So if your kids are into that then I would definitely go to Islands, they probably will not be able to ride the coasters (3) but should be able to do the rest. Universal has all the movie rides except for the two coasters, plus they have shows. Also, I think that right now they are doing the holiday parade at Universal so your family might enjoy that too. Honestly you will be on vacation and any park you decide to go there will be enough for the whole family to do. Enjoy your time in Florida!

The big excitement this year at Universal is the Harry Potter exhibit at Island of Adventure. If your kids are interested in that, I would pick that park. It also has Jurassic Park ride, some roller coasters and Dr. Seuss (for little kids). Many of the rides have height restrictions. They are listed on the website for universal. The Universal Studios Park has some of the old movie classic rides Shrek, ET, Jaws, Men in Black-if you are interested in those, then go there. We have been to both of these parks and also all the Disney parks. If you want lots of roller coasters, pick Universal. If you want a balance of attractions and rides and entertainment, I would spend an extra day at Disney and wait until all the kids are big enough for all the roller coasters at Universal.

I live here in Orlando and have been to both and by far the best of the two is Islands of Adventure. The "movie" rides at Universal are cheesy and will bore your oldest ones to death...Islands of Adventure have great rides and your youngers ones will sure like the Dr. Seuss area. Of course the new Harry Potter area is at Universal and I haven't seen it yet but it can't make up for what the rest of the park lacks...just my opinion, of course!

Are your children Harry Potter fans? The new Harry Potter park is open and in the Universal Islands of Adventure Park. I suggest you find out what both parks have to offer and let your kids have a say in what park you do. They are old enough and it could make the trip more enjoyable for everyone.

Have fun. We're heading to Harry Potter park in March.

We have been to both parks many times . . . and I can't decide which one to recommend! :P

If I were you I would go online and get the park maps for both - look at all of the attractions and see which one would please the most people in your group.

Personally I love Islands but that's because we love Hulk and Dueling Dragons (major coasters). There are some cool little kid things in Islands too (the play land in Jurassic Park is great).

Good luck - hope you have a great time.
