Hello ladies (and gentlemen),

My boys (12 and 10)and I are going to Florida for a week in early June. We are going to go to Universal and Sea World and I'm looking for any suggestions for the Orlando area. Has anyone been to Universal lately and can you let me know how long realistically it will take to see the park? We are not doing Disney this time-we were there in 2010 and that was enough.

Thanks for any tips/ideas/suggestions.

What can I do next?

If they like rides then go to Islands of Adventure, you should be able to get through it in a day. Two days if you go to Universal Studios too. There are lots of restaurants on Universals city walk and they also have the Blue Man Group show.

SeaWorld you can do in a day also. That area of Orlando has lots of other sites like Ripley’s Believe it or not museum or Wonder Works on International Dr. If you Google search attractions in Orlando you will find other places to go.

Have fun, drink lots of liquids and wear sunscreen.

I went to Universal in 2010 and it took us pretty much all day just to get through all the fun stuff in the Harry Potter section (let alone the whole place).

Probably at least a day for Island of Adventure. It will be crowded and since
Harry Potter opened very popular. You may even need more than a day.
Figure a day at Universal Studios and a day at Seaworld. There is also
Legoland which is about 45 minutes from Orlando. I bet you can get a
bus from your hotel for that. Have fun. Take a day just to chill by the pool
too.

Hi K., I get so confused when we talk about Florida and all the parks, because i can't remember which park goes with which name, if that makes sense. Anyway, if I am saying this right, we went to Universal Studios, Island of Adventure. My boys who are 13 and 15 loved it. We went for a full day, and didn't see everything. I would suggest at least 1.5 to 2 days. We were there in Sept though, and did not have to wait in any lines at all, so you will probably have to plan for that in June, which will take up a great deal more time. Make sure you take a hat and sunglasses and plan on stopping for water lots. We want to go to Sea World next time we go, so I hope you have fun with that, it sounds fun. We also had a wonderful dinner at the Hard Rock, although it was VERY expensive. I think we spent $150 on our food with no alcohol, and also bought a $20 picture included in that price. But we thought the food at the walk up places wasn't good so we opted to spend more. I also know that you can go to some kind of park to see alligators which we all would have loved but did not have time. Hope you have a great time!!

At least two days for both parks at Universal. The first ride of the day as soon as they open should be Harry Potter as the line gets long fast!! The wand experience is a waste of time unless your kids really want a $35 plastic wand like in the movie!! Depending on how busy the place is ride wait times can be anywhere from 30 mins to over an hour so have a game plan in advance as to what rides they want to do and which park they are located. Here is a link that you can download the maps. http://www.universalorlando.com/Resort-Information/Theme-... Rip Rocket is a great ride too, it looks scary but it is mellower than the Dragons at Island adventure!!

Maybe we'll see you there cause we are taking my dad there for a day trip soon too!!

I think a lot of responses here are confusing about the parks. Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Sea World are all under the Universal umbrella but you need to look at them as 3 separate parks even though you can buy a pass that allows you to go back and forth between Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, but I would never do more than 1 park in a day. You would waste time walking between the parks and it would be too exhausting to try to parks in one day to enjoy. Allow a full day for Isalnds of Adventure. My daughters were about the same age as your boys when we went to it, and it will be your boys' favorite! Get there early and go straight to the Harry Potter ride, the line will be long but it won't get any shorter the longer the day goes. The rides you will bypass to get to it are mostly little kid rides anyway except for one coaster which you can do at the end of the day. That's the order we did the park and it worked perfectly. This will put you in the water ride area at the hottest part of the day. After that, don't miss Spiderman and The Hulk roller coaster was awesome! Don't waste time in the shops and as someone mentioned, don't waste your time at The Wand Shop line at Harry Potter! Allow a full day for Sea World and don't miss the Dolphin show and the Shamu show. Sea World also has great roller coasters - The Manta and I can't remember the name of the other one. I recommend heading to the back left hand corner of the park first for the water ride where the boats splash down a large incline. It's a great ride and since people don't want to get wet right away, you can avoid the lines and get in a good traffic flow to avoid lines. From there, go left or right depending on the show times that day. Do the far right side of the park dead last and only if you have time. That's where there is lots of play equipment for mostly younger kids so you don't want to waste time there. The Shamu show is in that area so you can look it over when you are coming or going from the Shamu show. The dolphin show is in the left hand side of the park. There is another arena that is more central for the seal and walrus show. We caught some of that show, it was just "okay". Make Universal Studios park your short day where maybe you can enjoy some pool time too or just need a slower pace. I think you can do this park in 6 hours max. It will be lame compared to Islands of Adventure. You will go through Universal City upon entering. It is restaurants, theaters, and shops. It is more happening for night life at night. If interested, do it last when leaving or after the park closes. Universal Studios has a good roller coaster called "Rock something?" Go there first and then go left and work the park left to right. There is an indoor small coaster ride which is fun and Twister. You will pass Shrek entering the park, but do it last. It was neat, but a rather long sit in the theater and your feet well welcome the rest at the end of the day rather than the beginning. There is a boat ride at the back right hand corner of the park that is full of surprises. In deciding the order of the parks, I would do Islands of Adventure and Sea World on the days you think would be least busy like mid-week days. Universal Studios on the day you suspect would be busiest or on a day that you require a slower pace. Of the 3 parks, it will be your boys' least favorite.

Ok. First of all, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Seaworld are NOT all under the "universal Umbrella. That's not accurate. Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure ARE, and they are on the same property as well. Seaworld is owned by a different company, the same one who owns Bush Gardens, Discovery Cove, and the waterpark, Aquatica.
Now, Universal Studios and Islands of adventure are both very fun theme parks. My family has annual passes and we go to both parks on a regular basis. If you are very much into roller coaster and scary rides, I would plan on spending an entire day in Islands of adventure. That is where you will find most of the roller coasters and the scarier rides. They have the action hero stuff, all of the Dr. Seuss stuff, the Harry Potter stuff, most of the old cartoon stuff, and the Dinosaur stuff. Poisiodon is there too. There is a cool fountain there that "talks" and sprays water at you too. It's qute funny. There are some water rides there as well, so plan on getting wet and bring dry clothes and wear shoes that can get wet and will dry easily. (but will stay on your feet well for other rides like Harry potter and the hulk)
The Universal Studios side has rides, but they are more movie themed, and not as many are roller coaster type. They are more of a 4 d type, although some are on the roller coaster theme. They are more inside too. There are also some shows. This is the side that has the light show at night which is fairly new, the 100 years of movies show. (very cool)
You can do both parks in a day, but I wouldn't plan on it. If you are planning on riding all of the rides, or most of them, I would plan a day at each park. You can go from park to park, but it is easier to spend a whole day in one park and then go to another the next.
I would NOT go to the Harry Potter / hogworts area FIRST as you were told earlier. The lines are always long there, but that is what EVERYONE does. LOL! If you wait until lunchtime or shortly after, you will find the lines are shorter, and you will not have to wait as long. Also, if you stay on site you will have a speed pass, which gets you on the ride faster. If you can, get in the line for single rider on the Harry Potter ride. You can't really sit "together" anyway, and you pretty much ride alone on that ride anyway, and the single rider line is WAY shorter. It will save you SO much time! (on that ride you are basically sitting in a box, so you can't see who you are sitting with anyway) I would reccommend this as long as you aren't with very young kids.
If you have time while you are in Orlando, I would try to go to some of the smaller attractions. They are so much fun and not nearly as crowded as the big theme parks. Seaworld is fun, and will be a full day. Just don't forget your sunscreen. It gets really hot here! Also, you will get wet in most of the shows and rides there. (well, if you want to anyway. ) Bring a camera, and have fun! I would suggest a couple good ziploc bags for your camera, and also your money and ID's. (just in case you do get soaked) It's the way we always pack when we go! Enjoy!!
