Have I got the preacher for you. I actually know two who will conduct the ceremony just how you want it. Also know person to create beautiful silk (or real) flowers to carry if interested. T.
I am looking for a unique contemporary venue in which to conduct a "non-traditional" wedding in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. We expect about 75-150 guests, plan more of a cocktail/hors d'oeuvres event with an impromptu ceremony and dance, and perfer an intimate city setting. I am in the service industry so good food is a must! Any ideas regarding this request (or any direction on finding an officiant that is willing to incorporate kids into the ceremony) would be most appreciated. Thank you!

We were married at the Walker Art Center. The food was outstanding and the cake was the best and most beautiful I have ever had. It overlooks the whole city and you have a huge deck area with sculpture for guests to spread out. It was very expensive, however, but well worth the money. The staff and wedding planner were amazingly professional as well. I would give the whole experience a 10 on a scale of 1-10. If you wanted something a little less grand, the sculpture garden also holds weddings. I have also heard that the Weissman art gallery at the U of M is wonderful. There is a new art museum in South Minneapolis on Diamond lake Road that also does weddings, The Museum of Russian Art. I have also heard Como conservatory is great but it is the most popular place in town and hard to get!
Good luck!!!
Hi M.,
I got married at Como Conservatory in May and it was beautiful, but they have a cap of 75 people. I also have a relative who married at the Loring Cafe over by the U of M and it was nice, too. They had the wedding and reception there with a jazz band. Great ambience. Good luck to you!

I got married and had our reception dinner/dance at the Calhoun Beach Club. They have a room with a curved ball room stair case which I walked down with my wedding party to enter the room. It was really a lovely location and the food was good too.
I was just driving by the U today and remebered going to a wedding there a few years back. It was in the McNamara Alumni Center. As they were putting it up we called it the Death Star because of its unusual design. The inside is beautiful, all dark, shiny marble or granite (some kind of stone). I can't remeber the food, the all the wedding I've attended seem to blend together over time. I think it was catered by Christo's. Anyhow, I think they let you do outside catering. If not, I believe they work with D'Amico for their in house catering. It is certainly a unique and contmeporary venue.
How about the Weinstein Gallery at the U of M? It's both unique and contemporary. I haven't been to a wedding there but my mother-in-law as just invited to a wedding that was being held there. I would never have thought of it, but it sure seems like it meets your criteria for a non-traditional wedding!
Good luck
I think that the Wabasha Caves would be cool. Also the History Center has a place for weddings that is wonderful. Gale mansion is great for smaller weddings, and so is the Stillwater courthouse. For an out door wedding Como, Paddleford steam boats, or look into other parks with gathering halls that work great for dance/recption. Before you have your heart set on a location check with your officiant. My friend had booked an outdoor location and her priest would not marry the couple if it was not at the alter, she was married at the alter a week before and had a reading of her vows the next week with everyone to witness.
Congrats and good luck!
We had our wedding in the Sky Garden of the Crowne Plaza Northstar Hotel in downtown Minneapolis. They cater the wedding themselves, and decorate the reception hall for you. More info on their site: http://www.cpminneapolis.com/meetings_banquets/meetings_w...
Friends of ours were marreid at the conservatory at Como Zoo in St. Paul. It is very pretty and an intimate setting. There website is http://www.comozooconservatory.org/cons/amenities/rentals... Good Luck!
I went to a work Christmas party at the Walker Center for the Arts. They have a great room that overlooks the Mpls skyline. The food was great. I think it is catered by Wolfgang Puck's company.
