Undigested Food and Poop

This is probably a really crazy question but i am going to ask it anyway. My 14 month old is now into eating lots of different foods. I have been noticing that his poops always have lots of undigested foods mostly veggies and sometimes fruits in them. Is that normal? Does that mean he is not getting any nutrition from them? Silly question but really curious.

What can I do next?

Yep, normal. I remember when I was first babysitting (probably about 13 or 14) and I was changing the baby's diaper and saw what appeared to be the end of a balloon in the diaper and FREAKED OUT . . . . it was corn. I will never forget that (he's a sophmore at Purdue now! Wouldn't he be mortified to hear that story!).

Yes, there are certain things that go undigested and its not an issue with nutrition. His body is getting the good stuff.

More crazy info . . .it happens to you too! :-)

It's totally normal. Watch out for the mandarin orange poop, that's a killer!

Completely normal. If you can get him to chew more (yeah, right) then this will help, but it's not bad. I've found whole green peas, blueberries, peaches etc in my son's. He seems fine so I don't worry much. He's probably *not* getting much (any?) nutrition from the food that is completely undigested but most of what he eats is getting broken down to some extent....

JB:

not a silly questions at all... some foods are digested "better" than others. I expect ( don't really know) that nutrients are extracted even when foods are not totally digested.
