Shaving Bikini Area

I am so tired of getting red bumps from shaving my bikini area!
Anyone know of a good product I can use? I tried Nair this morning and it really didn't work. Some of the hair came off but not all of it. I would really like to avoid using a razor and I'm not big on the idea of waxing either. Any suggestions?

This would probably be considered a dry shave. Dust on some baby powder and shave as usual. It's an old showgirl trick.

There is a product that i love called Magic shave-they have it at Walmart, not Target. It is actually for African American men's facial hair. the can/powder works better than the tube/paste.

I personally love waxing...but can't afford it on a regular basis.

A trick I learned a loooooong time ago with shaving the bikini area is this:

As soon as you've finished shaving, use Secret Unscented Solid (the oldschool white block) deoderant on ANY (and I mean ANY) area that you just shaved. Keeps razor burn/red bumps from happening. Reapply as necessary.

Warning: Ahem. You DO have to warn your partner, or use babywipes just before oral sex. A mouthful of antiperspirant isn't fun. :P

I know this is going to sound awful but it works for me...and now my sister! We ALWAYS got red bumps when shaving there and under the arms. The only thing that works for me is shaving dry with a disposable Bic razor. I know it sounds painful or even worse, but it works!!! It's worth a shot! I have shaved dry for 20 years now. Every now and then I'd try it with soap and water and have horrible razor burn.

Just a thought! Hope it works :)

I invested in laser hair removal down there. A little pricey, but the results are unbelievable. I would highly recommend it.

Apply deoderant to your just-shaved bikini area after you are done. I read somewhere that strippers do this to prevent bumps and ingrown hairs in their bikini line, ha! Seems to work. If you think about, you never do get the same issues after shaving your underarms... that's cause the deoderant is there coating it and protecting it somehow.

Lazer hair removal is a good way but expensive. Just make sure you get a good recomendation for a dr. by someone who had sucesful treatments. I know of Dr.s who got into cosmetic lazer and don't really know what they are doing or how to use the settings on their lazer machines. You can waist a lot of money on dr.s who don't do it right. I notice I get razer bumbs when I shave inconsistently. If you shave daily you probably won't get as many bumps. But if you have $ for lazer hair removal, it is the best way. I hear it takes 6 or more treatments to get it all at about $100+ per treatment.

You may want to look into and research lazer hair removal.

Also, NAET.com for allergy treatments. You may have some estrogen levels that are off, if you are treated by an NAET allergist for your estrogen components, you may see that your hair grows less.

Be well.

A couple drops of tea tree oil on your razor blade everytime you shave and shave everyday. Works for me.

There is a product that you can use after you shave or wax, it is called Tend Skin. It takes care of the razor burn.

I would stick with waxing. I bite the bullet and I wax. I don't love it, but it gets the job done. I get my eyebrows waxed every 3 weeks.

I tried laser on one area of my underarm in my early 20s and I felt a tingling up to my nipple. It felt funny for a few days. Nerve damage? I don't know, but it was enough to scare me away from the idea.

If you do an google search, there are some bad, horror stories (real damage to the skin - looks like sun burn that is permanent) as a result of laser removal.

When I shave, I make sure the blade is sharp and then I put on Neosporin when I get out of the shower. It really does help to stop the bumps before they start.

I've had a lot better luck with Veet, but I do have to leave it on for the maximum amount of time (10 minutes). Also, if I do have to shave I use this stuff called Bikini Zone. It's a clear gel you put on the area afterwards and it really helps prevent bumps and sooth the skin. Good luck!

HI S.,
I used to get red bumps also. I hated it and decided to do electrolosis. It's not as common as laser, but it was 20 years ago. Way back then, I wore a bathing suit bottom and she took all the hair out that she saw outside of the bikini. I loved the results so much that I did my underarms too. It was painful, probably as much as laser, and it took about as long, but I havent shaved in years! I love it.
It was kind of theraputic too. My lady would talk to me about all sorts of stuff, all the things I was going thru that week.

Go for the waxing - compared to child birth (and rearing) it's not that bad!

Try a product called Tend Skin. It is available online or at beauty supply shops. It really works. I dab it on after shaving or waxing and it prevents the red bumps. It also will cure them within a day or so.

Have you ever tried an electric razor? My husband got a new one, so I tried his old one! I have been using it on my legs and bikini area ever since. No more cuts or bumps and it is quick and easy! Good luck....

Hi S.
The only thing I wanted to add from all of the great suggestions here is that using a small exfoliating pad will also help, if the redness is due to ingrown hairs (which it probably is, atleast in part). If the redness happens soon after shaving then it is probably mostly irritation, but if it happens two or more days after then it is probably due to new hairs trying to grow in. Gently exfoliating everyday (just for a few seconds in the shower, with one of those facial cleansing exfoliators, disposable) helps tremendously with this, whether you shave or wax. Personally, I think you might want to reconsider on the waxing (go to a salon; don't try at home until you've had it done professionally for awhile). Your skin will be as smooth as a baby's butt and will LAST for up to several weeks! Good luck :-)

Shaving = hair grows back too quick and grows back a lot thicker leading to red bumps and ingrown hair.

Waxing = hurts like hell, leaves your skin very red and also leads to ingrown hair.

EPILADY = LOVE IT!!!! Pulls out the hair from the root, grows back thinner and less of it, also takes a longer time for the hair to return. It's a little painful the first time around since your starting off with thick hair but, not bad once the hair grows back a lot finer. I also recommend this for your underarms. The little machine cost anywhere from $16.00 to $70.00.

I've waxed, shaved and Naired too and I've opted for the waxing. No matter whether I wax or shave, I used Tend Skin to avoid the red bumps you are concerned about. The bottle says it prevents razor bumps, ingrown hairs and redness. You can find it at some beauty supply shops.

Good luck :-)

If you change your mind and use a razor, try anti-bumps shave gel from Walgreens. It's in a tube and aqua colored. Works great!
