Underarm Hair Loss

I'm 39, just had a baby five weeks ago, and am breastfeeding. The past few days I've noticed my underarm hair has stopped growing. I have an appointment with my obgyn for the six week post pregnancy check up so I will talk to her about it then, but I am curious if anyone else has experienced this.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

the doctor checked my thyroid and it was fine. The hair growth has slowly started up again. I guess you can just blame it on hormones.

Sorry, I have never experienced this. I wish I did. Now, if it can stop growing on your legs (but the hair on your head gets thicker to make it up), you would have it made.

Actually thyroid, not absorbing nutrients, and anemia problems can cause underarm hair loss. I know, because my OB told me to start watching for body hair loss after my son was born. You might request (If your Ob doesn't suggest it) some blood work done.

Not sure why it has happened but it's good that you have an appointment soon to ask your doctor.

This happened to me WHILE I was pregnant with my son but not afterwards.

Are you taking any kind of diuretic? There are actually some that are used specifically for this purpose, as they can reduce the effect of testosterone on the skin. If not, probably just the effects of hormonal changes. In some women testosterone may not necessarily be at a high or low level, but just has a greater effect on the skin in the form of acne and/or hair growth.

Yes, I do remember after my 2nd child my underarm hair grew very slowly. It's normal. Goes right along with all the hair you are losing or will lose due to hormones.

Could be hormones. This happened to me after I gave birth and this is what I was told. Unfortunately in my case it lasted only about 6 months.

This happened to me after the birth of my first child. Not really complaining but it never has grown back much. I guess I should ask about it too...
