My son has the same problem. My peditrician sent me to a specialist and he told me my son will need surgery, but he is also sending me to another specialist that will actually be doing the surgery. It wont be for a couple months though. I hope everything works out for you guys, and your sons surgery is a success. I will be in your shoes in a couple months. I just wanted to let you know you werent alone and I know how you feel. Everything will turn out great in the end. Goodluck!!

I have not had a son that had to have this surgery, but my husband did... His mom didn't have the surgery done until he was much older (8 or 9 yrs)! he has bad memories of the event and the surgery itself didn't go that well because he should have had it done before the age of one or two. I think surgery is hard and scary (for the mom especially). From what I know though this is a necessary surgery and it will probably be a little bit hard to go through at any age. It would be great though if you could find another mom who had this done to her baby, they would probably have a lot of suggestions for what to expect.

One of my sons had to have both of his testies droped. It was very scary, I was so nervous i did not want anything to happen to him or have him loose his testie.
Well he had the surgery just before he turned 2. There was a problem they were so high up their that on his right side the doc cut the main blood vessel so he could bring it down, and on the left side he needed to do that as well but he did not, he pulled it down with out cutting the vessel and anchored it to a button looking thing on the out side of his sack. He had it like that for about 2 weeks then they cut it off.
The doc said that their would be a chance that his right testie would die off because he cut the main blood supply. That really upset me, but after thinking about it i rather have my son so it was not that big of a deal any more.
Well he is three now and still has both testies. The doc said if he has not lost it by now then he wont.
The whole surgery took about 1 1/2 hours little longer then the norm because of how hi they were. Looking at him know you barley see his scars.

Hi, my son had a hydrocele, which has something to do with his testicles but to tell you the truth I'm still not exactly sure what it is (now that I'm older and much wiser I would not let a family member have surgery without knowing all about it but it was a long time ago...) Anyway he had surgery at about 6 months and it was SO scary to have him put to sleep but he came out of it just fine.

Hi T.,
Yes I have gone through this experienc with two of my sons.Initially it's a little frightening, but once you are explained all of the information, it becomes easier to deal with. Ask any and all the questions you have.
Anyway they both went through it before the age of one and they were fine and are fine now. It's an outpatient procedure ( which I'm sure you already know) and he goes home the same day. I don't remember them having discomfort afterwards for long if at all.
