My Son's Testicals...

I did not know how else to say the subject, but anyways.. My son had his 9th month appintment and she said that she could not feel his testicals. She said that if they do not come down by a year that they are going to have to do surgery to bring them down. I have to set up an appointment to have an ultrasound done, and they are going to see what is going on. But has anyone else's son gone through this, and what kind of surgery did they do if their testicals did not come down?

What can I do next?

My son had an undecended testical and had surgery at 13months to fix it. It is scary, but nessesary for their overall health. It is also more common then you think. I know of at least three other boys who have had this same issue (and are the same age as my son).

My brother had one of his brought down when he was about 10years old. This was over 10years ago so let my memory go back in time but I believe it was a quick easy procedure and he came home the same day. I just remember him laying on the couch for a few days and how embarassed he was because of the body parts involved. I remember it wasn't a big deal he just needed to rest for a few days.

I personally don't have any experience with this but a friend of mine has a brother-in-law that they didn't find it in until he was an adult and by that point he was infertile because of it. Sorry I don't know more, but I thought I'd share one of the outcomes if nothing is done so at least you know there is a good reason for having it fixed.

Hi A.;
My son, who is now 8 years old, had one undescended testicle. He also ended up getting a hernia so we had both issues resolved in the same surgery. I think he was about 10 - 12 months old. The one that they surgically brought down isn't at the same level as the other one. I did read that it may cause fertility issues when the child grows up.
It was alot harder on mom and dad than it was on him. It hasn't affected his maturity or growth at all. Please don't worry. He will be o.k. and he won't remember anything.

My nephew had the same issue, they did an ultrasound and waited another 3 months before deciding to do the surgery. He is just fine!! I agree that surgery on little ones is often harder on mom and dad.
Good luck!! Remember, you want grandkids SOMEDAY so you want them to come down! :)
