Ugh... Spilled Chocolate Milk in the Car... Grrr

So just bought a new (used) car and my wonderful son thought he should christen it the 2nd week we had it! HaHa. Gotta love our babies - right!! Anyways, I have used my Little Green Steam Cleaner to try and clean it up the best I could, but I can tell there is still chocolate milk stuck in the carpet. I keep sucking it up the the cleaner and haven't had any clear/semi clear water yet. Should I try a different approach or just continue to spray cleaner and suck it up?

Any extra tips to keep it from smelling?

Thanks in advance!!

What can I do next?

keep wetting it and sucking up all the liquid. Instead of using an actually cleaner though you would probably be fine with using water. I would actually probably put a LOT of water on it and then suck up as much as I could. At least this way anything that is left that you just cannot suck up should be very diluted and won't cause any smell.

Once you have it all sucked up then you really shouldn't have to worry about any smell.

Good luck!!! Not a fun job.

Last summer, an entire gallon of milk spilled in my car. After a week of me cleaning & sucking up what I could....which I never got clear water either. I took it to a detail shop. They shampooed all of the carpets for $35. It was $35 well spent. I could not take the smell of rotting milk in 90 degree heat.

Same thing happened in my car. The carpet is black. All I did was soak up the chocolate milk with an old towel. Poured a bit of water on it and then soaked that up. This happened several months ago and there is no visible stain or odor.

I like the Little Green Steam Cleaner for surface spills but not for liquids that soak into the carpet. I had a wet and dry hand held vacuum that I liked the best. It didn't have a brush. I think the brush may push the liquid back into the carpet. If you can use the machine without the brush I'd try that. I also suggest that you use plain water and not a cleaner solution because that can smell too.

Nature's Miracle, you find it at PETCO for less than $20 a gallon. It is an enzyme that breaks down proteins like milk.

so funny, I bought a new (used car) about a week ago and my daughter spilled an entire cup of milk on the floor 2 days ago. I used towels to soak it all up, then sprayed a TON of natures miracle on it, let it sit and then soaked that up. It worked really really well, their is no smell, no sign of it. I am actually amazed!
I just started using natures miracle a few months ago and it gets stains out of carpet, smells out of carpet... but you have to use it before using any other chemicals on it so I am hoping the steam cleaner you used doesnt have any soap or anything. Try it anyway!

Bi-o-Kleen BacOut works great at naturally eliminating oders caused by bacteria. It has a fresh lime scent and is safe for pets and children and those of us sensative to other cleaners. I get mine at the grocery, or the natrual food store.

This happened to me last Fall. After trying several things, I finally gave in and took it in to a professional car detailing place. It cost around $100 but the smell was out. Also if you do go this route, be sure to tell them it's spilled milk so they can use one of those enzyme cleaners the others suggested here.

Ooh, this question hit close to home! Except in my case, my daughter accidentally left a leaky sippy cup of milk in the car, and the car sat locked...for a WEEK...while we went on vacation! Got back, opened it up, and the smell about knocked me out! :) I had to take it to a car wash/detailing place. Best $70 i ever spent though! They shampooed the seats & floors, then used an ionizer machine to neutralize the odor. Because the milk in my car had been sitting in a hot car for a week, they had to do the ionizer treatment twice. (At no extra cost!) You may need to go that route if all else fails. Good luck, mama!
