Milk Spill in Car -- Eek!!

I accidentally tipped my daughter's bag over in the car and didn't realize until an entire sippy of milk had leaked all over the floor. Now the car reeks, and I've heard it can be next to impossible to get rid of the smell. It's a new car and I'm super upset. Anybody have any good remedies to clean and deoderize?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Nature's Miracle (pet stain cleaner with enzymes) worked like a charm! I doused the floor and used like 2/3 of the bottle, and it's been absolutely fine. Thanks, everybody.

I had a situation where milk spilled in my car. It was a faulty lid on a gallon of milk I had just bought and it leaked the entire ride home. I used a steam vac to get as much out as I could. After it was dry I sprinkled some carpet fresh and let it sit for a few days. Then vacuumed it up. Fortunately the smell was gone and this was few years ago and no residual smell.

Get yourself a bottle of pet deodorizer like Anti-Icky Poo or Nature's Miracle and spray down the area where it spilled. Give it a minute to soak in and then take an old towel to soak up any excess. You can also try spraying some plain white vinegar.

A few years ago, I accidentally forgot a gallon of milk when I was taking groceries into my house...in the summer. The entire gallon exploded and IMAGINE the smell!!!! My husband and I were gagging the entire way to the car wash. We paid about $20 for the quick interior shampoo and it fixed the problem completely. I you don't want to go that route....I would try Woolite Oxyclean first. It is an INCREDIBLE product that has even taken set-in red wine out of my cream carpet. Thoroughly saturate the milk stain, let it set for a few minutes, soak up as much as you can, and re-do. I honestly can't think of a better $3.00 investment:-) Good luck!!!!!

Carpet cleaners are your best bet. Resolve was great for getting out milk, vomit, etc. It also works on seatbelt straps/carseat straps caked in milk or vomit.

my kids spilled chocolate milk in the car once. I took it straight to the car wash and had them shampoo the carpets. We never had any bad smells.

Guess what - I spilled a whole glass of milk in my car just a couple of months ago. After a few days -- sure enough, sour milk smell. I poured like a half a bottle of Nature's Miracle, the pet enzyme on it, and it completely eliminated the smell. Just make sure you drench it, and get the whole area where the milk spilled. Anti- Icky-Poo, suggested below, will also work. Either one.

call a carpet cleaner, and ask them about cleaning the carpet in your car. You will be glad you spent the money.

You might want to have that dealt with professionally. An auto detailer can use industrial deodorizer and an ozone machine if necessary. I suspect if it's not "handled" now, that smell may make an appearance once the weather turns warm....good luck!
