Two Periods in One Month - Novi,MI

Ok, I just started my period and I am not due to have one for another two weeks. I am not on the pill and have been off of it for over a year now. I misscarried a year ago in June. I am trying not to freak out but my mind is going to two different places. The first being that I may be losing another baby and the second being that I may be experiencing premature menopause.

I have posted recently about irregular periods but they have never been this close together before. Along with the irregular periods I was experiencing other issues (such as hot flashes, night sweats, and emotional episodes, among other thigs) all of which sounded an awful lot like menopause.

My grandmother went through menopause when she was 32 and I am 27. I realize it's crazy to think I could actually be going through menopause in my 20's but ya never know.

Can you please talk me down...or share your stories. I want to wait a few days before I go totally crazy and call my doctor.

Thanks so much!

EDIT: I just wanted to mention that after diet and exercise my periods did get back to a normal cycle after the first wasky episodes started happening.

PCOS: read up on it and see if any of the other symptoms fit you. You DO NOT need to be obese or overweight to have PCOS it just happens to be much more common in women who are. I was diagnosed earlier this year after years of "wacky" periods and problems conceiving our second child. Good luck.

I actually had the same thing happen this month and posted about it here http://www.mamapedia.com/questions/9594104117387657217. It turned out that I had a chemical pregnancy. Basically that's when an egg is fertilized but for whatever reason isn't able to implant. Usually you would start to bleed about the same time that your period comes, but for some reason (maybe I ovulated right after my last period??) my body flushed itself out about two weeks after my previous period. My doc is watching my HCG levels through bloodwork and I need to continue to get tested until my levels are under 5. This is my first experience with this and I haven't really gotten any info about it from my O.B. (as you can see from my other post). Maybe something similar happened with you? I hope that you are able to figure it out. :)

Couple of things I would do to put my mind at ease:

In the morning take a home pregnancy test. If you are pregnant and having bleeding that doesn't mean the worst. Bleeding can be very common but having been thru difficult and high-risk pregnancies i understand the fears.

Then I would make an appointment with my gyn. Write down the physical/emotional things you have been experiencing so you don't forget anything at the appointment. Talk with your doctor about what you have been experiencing. I would bet she/he will order blood work to see what might be going on.

Best to you.

Hi M.,

The pill does some strange things to your body. I've research some of the dangers of it and one very important detail is that it can keep an older adult (usually 30+) from getting pregnant for as long as 10 years. That's just one instance that tells you that it is doing something major to your body. Early menopause is usually because of an imbalance and can usually be postponed with good nutrition and avoidance of other things that break down your immune system.

There could be a chemical pregnancy or your body could just be out of whack. Either way you need balanced nutrition and exercise. Chiropractic care can help as well.

Almost anything can be remedied if you get your body back the way it is supposed to operate. Sometimes it takes longer or you have to work a little harder to get it there. Don't panic! Stress never does a body good!

Regards,

M.

Okay, it's really unlikely you're going through menapause! I know you've been off the pill for a year, but it sometimes can take a lot of time to readjust your body. In fact, my periods were totally different when I came off the pill (many, many years later) than they were before I went on it in the first place. So, maybe you're cycle is just different and weird now, which sucks for sure, but probably isn't anything scary or traumatic. I would think that the other symptoms could easily be explained by your irregular cycle...all of those could be normal period symptoms too...maybe not hot flashes, but maybe!

If you've been experiencing irregular periods and odd symptoms since you've been off the pill then I think a call or visit to your doc is warranted and not crazy. I would call your doctor anyway, if nothing else just to discuss how you can get your current symptoms under control! Good luck!

You know, the same thing happened to me this spring and I was quite confused...and believe me, there was absolutely no possibility that I could be pregnant.

I had my cycle, and then 2 weeks later had another cycle...and then I went back to my monthly cycles of 29-33 days. I was under a lot of stress. In the past I had very wacky cycles where I could go for several months without one. The past couple years, they have been better, still with a 15 day varience (29-44 days).

What I decided to do, was just document it and see what happend. It hasn't happened since. Most websites I came across said you had to have a 4 month time period of wacky history before the OBs would start considering problems.

Menapause runs early in my family too, and I had the same though. If you are concerned, make an appointment. However, I would wait and see what happens within the next month or two; has long as you aren't having any other symptoms that are giving you trouble.

Best of luck.
