I am wondering if anyone has been in my situation and what the outcome was. I miscarried the first time we tried to get pregnant at 5 weeks. I then had a healthy pregnancy and gave birth to a healthy baby girl. When she was 13 mos we tried again and got pregnant. I had a normal pregnancy until 11 weeks when I started bleeding heavily. I was certain i had miscarried but I had not, I was diagnosed with a circumvalate placenta and gave birth to a healthy baby girl in January of 2007. I got pregnant again in February 2009 and just miscarried again at 4 weeks. Anyway what Im trying to get at is should I have some kind of testing done where I've had more than one miscarriage, even though I've had two healthy pregnancies in between. Sorry such a long request. Thanks

I just wanted to respond, I have had two miscarriages in between two healthy normal preganancies. My first pregnancy was normal with no complications, my daughter is now turning 6. Ater her I tried for a second and miscarried at 12 weeks. I got pregnant as soon as I could and had my second healthy pregnancy. My second daughter is now 2 1/2. Last year I tried for our third and miscarried at 5 weeks. I am ready to try for our 3rd again but am really scared! My dr did not suggest any testing becasue of the 2 healthy pregnancies. Appearantly I am just another statistic. My fear though is that they say after 2 miscarriages your chances of more increase a lot! Good luck to you!

Sorry for your losses. I have a friend that has a family member that has a condition or chemical makeup in her body that rejects male babies. I do not recall the name of the condition, sorry. You may want to inquire about it from your doctor.

May God bless you and your family.

Dear A.,

first let me say I am sorry for your loss. I read the other responses and I see you got some good advice from other moms in the club noone ever wanted to join. If you have concerns, you should talk with your doctor, or ask for a referral to a fertility specialist. I had been told all the stuff about waiting until it is more than two, or three-when I finally saw the specialist. she recommended chromosonal analysis of both me and my husband. The way she explained it, sometimes an abnormal chromosome can come into play, causing a miscarriage, and sometimes the combination does not activate the bad genes and you can have a healthy baby. Its not an all or nothing, so you may want to check.

That being said, I agree with the other posters that age can play a role as can other changes to your body.

Good luck in your search for answers.

No. . . you don't need any special work ups or tests. The fact that you have had two births between the miscarriages says alot about you. I have had two miscarriages and am now expecting a second child in a few weeks. I had a son between the two miscarriages and was led to believe miscarriages are fairly common and that nothing was wrong.

Speak with your MD about it if you are concerned, but I think mother nature is doing what she is supposed to do and that you are just fine.

First off, you are not alone. Depending on your age, miscarriage rates go up with age. I had a healthy daughter and then miscarried 2x before having another healthy girl. I read a great book called: Preventing Miscarriage, the Good News by Jonathan Scher. It talks about all the testing you may need depending on your situation. My Obgyn recommended the following 3 tests: HSG (Hysterosalpingogram); APS test (Antiphospholipid); Chromosomal Analysis and HCG level check. After the results of these tests, I went to see a fertility specialist who deals with multiple miscarriages at UCONN, center for advanced reproductive services. They were fantastic! In the end, I was perfectly fine, and was re-assured things were not right with those pregnancies. I also did ask to be put on progesterone when I got pregnant again. In the end, I gave birth to a healthy baby girl. I hope this helps and I wish you lots of luck with Baby # 3!

Hi A.,

First of all, I want to tell you how sorry I am for what you are going through.

I had 2 miscarriages between two healthy pregnancies. When I asked about testing I was told that they would only consider it if I had 3 or more consecutive miscarriages. They considered two normal.

I wish I could be more helpful.

Good luck,
C.

I don't think you your doctor would want you to have any testing yet, but that's the person you should ask.

I've had three miscarriages. I had one miscarriage at 7 weeks, then a healthy pregnancy/baby. Then I had two more miscarriages at 6 weeks, but then a healthy pregnancy/baby. At the point of three miscarriages, my doctor ordered a number of blood tests as well as an ultrasound of my uterus. I think my husband was tested as well. Everything was normal. We tried again and I had a healthy baby.

This is one of the reasons why we are not going to try to have any more. It was hard to go through all those ups and downs of miscarriages. I am so, so grateful to have two happy, healthy children. The fact that you also have two is HUGE. Good luck.
