I had an early ultrasound and it showed one baby and something a bit different. I was told to come back and there was another sac, but there wasn't enough blood supply to the second sac and it just reabsorbed into my body. I came out with one very healthy little girl about 8 months later.

Good luck to you and try not to let the doctors/clinicians get you stressed out over something, especially with the genetic testing.

Take care not to have too many sonograms. You are at least pregnant with a normal baby. Where some doctors went to medical school is a question I ask myself all the time and where did they get the training to look for so many things that might be wrong? Midwives with lots of experience often know more about how to handle a mother's questions and what to do if there is trouble.

If you have twins they can be detected later in pregnancy by careful listening to the difference in heartbeat. Unless one fetus is sitting behind the other totally the heartbeats come from different locations in the uterus. Such as one baby facing right while the other faces left or one is breech and the other head down.

Hi A.,
The part that I had the same was the ectopic. If it truly was an ectopic your dr would not wait 2 weeks to see you...so congratulations!! :) Ectopics are very dangerous and are monitored very closely. Having 2 sacs...I'm not sure that means twins, but you never know. Your doctor would be ther person to ask. Good luck with the baby!!

Just a thought, but I had two preganancies that turned out to be "blighted ovums". My understanding is that the egg was fertilized but for some reason did not develop. My body didn't release the blighted ovum but considered itself pregnant. Perhaps this has happened to the ectopic egg.
