Twilight Sedation for D&C and Ablation (Novasure)?

Due to heavy, pro-longed periods my doctor has recommended I have an endometrial ablation done (Novasure). As part of this process, they will also do a D&C. While they do offer to do this in the hospital under general anesthesia, I would prefer their other option, which is in the office under "twilight" sedation. (My last experience under general anesthesia resulted in two days of awful vomiting, plus the hospital route would be much more expensive for me.) My question is, have any of you had either of these procedures done under twilight sedation and if so, did you feel any pain? How conscious were you during the procedure? I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but this is one area where I'd prefer to keep it painless! Thanks to all!

What can I do next?

I just had Nova Sure done two weeks ago. I did it in the hospital. I asked IF they did it any other way and they said NO, absolutely not. They do it that way because of the smell (burning flesh) and the OR is sterile. Made sense to me.

My only regret was NOT getting a pain killer when I was asked. Tried to be a hero and eventually took something I had from my carpal tunnel surgery three years ago. (Glad it kicked in and worked!) That pain was wicked, it reminded me or being in labor but five hours I was almost back to normal.

I have had it 3 times-colonoscopy and upper gi work. I did not remember one single thing. As far as I am concerned you are out cold on that just like general. And I love that feeling when you wake up.

My mum did...

Even with Twilight, morphine, & ibuprofen she described it as the most painful thing in her life... and she had 2 VERY difficult vaginal births w/out meds (one with tearing from clit to anus with both of the doctor's hands inside her to dislocate my brother's arms), and kidney stones that have left her hospitalized.

Her girlfriend who also did it under twilight doesn't remember a thing.

I had two D&C's after miscarriages under twilight in the hospital. I don't remember a thing. See if that's an option--twilight & hospital. Good luck!

I had the twilight for a d&c at northwestern and I felt everything and still remember it to this day...9yrs later. Maybe some women are more sensitive than others.

I had a D&E due to a missed miscarriage. I was put under twilight sedation and do not remember a thing other than becoming aware in recovery. Apparently I even walked to recovery but don't remember this. I had no pain during the procedure and very little pain afterwards. I don't think you need to worry.

I had a d& c with twilight sleep and it hurt. I was woosie and dizzy yet could feel. My daughter had it for dental work and she did wonderful. I guess it just varies by person. Best of luck!
