I'm 38 (and 1/2...i feel like my daughter haha), my baby is almost 16 months old. We've never prevented pregnancy since she was born. I'm still nursing her, but only twice a day. I'm confused with my not getting pregnant.

When my husband and I got married, I had 2 girls and we wanted 2 more (he had none). He doesn't want the pressure of tttc, so we haven't prevented. I track my cycles and know when I'm ovulating. Given my age, could i be too old? Am i nursing enough to prevent conception?

I know i have three girls already so if this doesn't happen i wont be devastated.....I'd be disappointed. I have a brother and sil and my best friend struggle with infertility so i get that and feel bad I've has no problems conceiving the 3 I've had.

What can I do next?

As far as I know, the only way that nursing prevents conception is by inhibiting ovulation. It sounds like you have your cycle back already. Assuming that it's regular (it sounds like it is, if you are able to track it?), I wouldn't expect that nursing is a major factor in your not becoming pregnant.

It depends on the person but I got pregnant at that age with my third child while nursing my second child. I have a wonderful 3.5 year old little girl now :)

Hi,

Congrats on your 3 kiddos. I would just relax and pretend like you aren't trying to concieve. You won't have that pressure and if it happens, it will happen. I think part of it is you are nursing and that can play a part in your body and pregnancy. Good luck!

If you track your cycles, and you know you are ovulating, it's probably not the nursing. Or, rather, it probably was stopping you from getting pregnant for the first 8-10 months when you were nursing a lot, but probably isn't anymore. So you've probably been ovulating for about 4-6 months. That's too short of a time to worry.

However, age can play a major role. I got pregnant with my first within a month of stopping birth control at age 34. For my second, we started trying at age 37, but it took a year and a half to become pregnant. Nothing else had changed and nothing was wrong, just older eggs :(
