I'm struggling to find the time to get fit. I was thinking of signing up for a 5k to force me to get in shape. Has anyone else trained for a 5k or other event to get in shape/lose weight. How did you find the time? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Do what is called "interval training."
It can be done anytime, anywhere, and for only minutes.
Professional athletes also train this way.

All it means is: doing an activity, in spurts... walking for 3-5 minutes, then SPRINTING for 3-5 minutes, then walking for 3-5 minutes, then SPRINTING for 3-5 minutes. In intervals.

It is very strenuous... and you will sweat and get worn out.
See how long you can do it.... how many intervals.
It can only take 15 minutes.
It totally works the body.... losing weight, upping endurance and overall stamina.

You can do walking, jumping jacks, jumping in place, stairs, anything. ANY activity in which you do it a slow interval THEN a super fast kicked-up interval of it... each interval being even just 3 minutes.

And then, do things like toners. ie: squats, sit ups, etc.

If you look up "interval training" online, you will get lots of ideas.

all the best,
Susan

I hate running so I'm no help. But I will say I just bought Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and it's basically less than 30 min and she kicks my butt. I'm on week 2 and bumped it up to level 2 and I'm seriously working out.

I've worked out before, during, and after pregnancy and she hit muscles I didn't even know I had.
I already can tell a difference in my toning!

Get a jogging stroller and go for a run. I use the Couch to 5K app on my Iphone and it is great for 30 minutes of mommy time 3 times a week.

My hubby is training for a marathon by walking 3 miles around our neighborhood every night. He walks in a circle and measured it with the GPS on his phone and it's exactly 3 miles. Good luck!! OH!! and he lost 11 pounds already!!

Ha, that is funny. To "force" myself, I signed up for a 5k, but it is just a walk, with strollers. I am hoping that after the walk, I can keep trying to go this distance, just faster and faster.

Oh, and my 5k is in 3 days.

I am doing a 5K in November, Thanksgiving Day. I use couchtorunning.com, it's a great place to get you started. I have been trying to lose weight since June, and after 6 weeks of losing nothing, now that I have started running, it is coming off again. Good luck!
