Trying to Decide If I Should Have My Baby Girl's 1St Birthday on Halloween

I did not read the other responses so I am sorry if I repeat something or step on toes. My daughter was born on Halloween. Her second bday party we had on Halloween in the afternoon. By the time it came to trick or treating...she was to tired to do much, making her a little cranky. Also think of the other kiddos invited that it might conglict with trick or treating.

My friend's daughter was born on Halloween, and they always went with that for a theme. She loved it. She always thought of Halloween as a holiday for her birthday! They did her party close to the day of Halloween so it wouldn't interfere with anyone's plans, and there was never an issue. Having said that, my daughter was born close to Christmas, and we have NEVER done a Christmas theme!! I guess some holidays just seem more appropriate for birthdays too!

Halloween is my favorite holiday; my first daughter was conceived on Halloween :) And, I would love to have a baby born on that day, and yes, i'd go overboard every year with a Halloween/Birthday celebration. I think it is a great idea. If I could get married again, i'd definitely do it on Halloween!!

I think we overthink way too much. YOu have a cute theme so go for it...you know your friends and have probably already asked if they could attend. It could be an annual event that brings many memories, and it won't always be on Halloween just that it happens to be a Saturday this year.

Sounds adorable to me, and I bet baby girl will love it no matter what as long as her favorite family is there.

Do the mummy wrap with toilet paper, toss eggs, bob for apples...an old fashion Hallowween back to the basics. We all need to do this ;)

I would do a fall themed, not Halloween themed, party about a week before it. Yes you can still do pumpkins and leaves and apples and such. It will just be more likely to have full attendance.

My sons bday is 10/21 and we have always kept them separate. Its also easier for other children that bday is bday and Halloween is for all.He try and have it the weekend b4 Halloween or 2 weeks b4 depending on the dates and when Halloween falls. This year Halloween falls on sat so we are having it the weekend before. Yes I try to keep in mind the fall festivals halloween parties etc.

For our dtr 1st bday I got a pretty pink bday hat which we saved and got her 1st bday cake. They have some cute 1st bday party stuff and we got 1st bday pink bib we could take off after the messy cake. We just did cake and presents with family and friends. We wanted to be simple for the 1st bday.

My daughter has a close to Halloween birthday also and will be turning 14 this year. Over the years we've gone back and forth with using Halloween themes and not. For the first birthday you can really do whatever you want, just making it fun Halloween and not scary, obviously!

As my daughter got older we just followed what her idea of fun was. We've had very pink princess birthdays; we've had Halloween and guests all in costumes with Halloween candy as party favors. Now that she's a teenager we're back to Halloween themes, but with scary movie parties.

Just pick whatever theme you want and make it fun. As your daughter gets older let her choose her theme. She will decide if she wants to embrace the holiday each year.

We had my daughter's 5th birthday as a Halloween party and it was great fun! The birthday party was not overshadowed by the Halloween party at all. But...the kids were older and we had trick or treating as the finale. We served food, let the kids play, hit a pinata, played pin the princess in the window, and then cake and trick or treating. Well K. I understand exactly what you are saying! We have an Oct 30 baby. And this year Sat is on Halloween. We have decided to have a costume birthday party. Everyone (children & adults) are asked to wear a costume. We always have games, so this year the prizes will be toys and candy. We don't really "trick or treat" so I am advising parents that the party will be enough fun that they won't have to have the night time activities! This is my first year doing this...hope it works.
Idea: If you wanted to have the "princess" style party, you could ask guests to dress like "pixies" and have your daughter a "court" of other lil princess' and princes'. If I did this I would be sure to have her a dress or headpiece (crown) to make her "stand-out."

I think it is a cute idea and a great theme! I think some great things to keep the kids entertained would be pin the stem on the pumpkin, (sort of like pin the tail on the donkey just make a huge pumpkin out of a cardboard box and paint it). Pumpkin bowling is always a hit with kids. You just get a few small pumpkins and set up three two liter bottles filled with water or whatever. Let the kids bowl for prizes. Maybe let someone do face painting and fake tattoos when the kids arrive too, kids love this kind of thing! You could do a bounce house, see if they have one to match the theme. Also, Disney.com has some great print outs to put in gift bags, and they always have stuff for the holidays. You could probably find some cute pumpkin things under Winnie the Pooh Halloween. Google the net to see what else is out there. I think it will be a party that everyone will remember. Oh, one more idea. For my daughters birthday I did a cake and then cupcakes. I just iced the cupcakes and topped them with rings, all the kids loved the rings on top of the cupcakes...you may be able to find some Halloween ones at the dollar store. Have fun with it, she only turns 1 once and its all about what makes her and your family happy! Good luck, if I can think of more games I will e-mail you.

I can totally sympathize with you on this one. My youngest will be 1 on 11/26 which also just happens to be thanksgiving this year! Everybody will already be at the house so we are just going to do a "smash the cake party."

Any who, It sounds like you have put a lot of thought into your daughter's 1st birthday and have a really cute theme to go along with it. I say why not? She is little and you only get to pick what the the theme is for so long before they start voicing their own opinions.

And there is SO much you can do with this theme. If you are worried it might look like a Halloween party instead for her b-day then mix together decor and party favors. Like pink and black balloons & plates etc. Throwing in Pumpkins where you can since orange will go with those colors as well. That could be really cute! Have a special cake made to match along with your favor bags.

Last year I had a Halloween themed baby shower and we had a pumpkin piñata, pin the nose on the jack o' lantern, mini pumpkin decorating contest and other games. We made it kind of like a carnival. All the kids, even the teens, had a great time. I think we will do it again this year just for fun!

My son's 1st birthday theme was "Our Lil Pumpkin" as well. Instead of the Halloween decorations, I just used everything that was pumpkin related. I used the pumpkins without faces and had a pumpkin patch for the kids to climb on/in. I also used all of my fall harvest decorations which saved me $ and the decor still went with my theme. I did incorporate the colors blue and white (along with orange and green). This way it was a little more party-ish/ festive instead of just all autumn colors. Also, the party was only our close friends and family so we did not play games. It was only 2 hours long so by the time we did cake and presents, the party was pretty much over. We did get a bounce house for the kids. You could set up a pumpkin carving station or I have seen the Mr. Potato Head pieces but for pumpkins. This might be a little safer if you have little ones. We have a friend whose son was born on October 31. He is turning 4 this year and we have been to his 2nd and 3rd birthdays on Halloween. Everyone is in costume, we do a little craft at his house, have some cupcakes, and then all go trick-or-treating together. Fun, fun, fun!!!

His mom loves his birthday being on Halloween because she doesn't have to do a party and then prepare for halloween. Saves her some time!

Great idea. You could have it on another day close to Halloween so it doesn't interfere with trick-or-treating, but I think the pictures and memories would be fun from an event like that!

Trust me - she's not going to care or remember, so do what YOU want. It sounds like a cute theme and everyone will have fun. Plus when your daughter looks back at the pictures, she'll think it was cool. Have fun!

I vote no. My baby will be 2 on Oct. 24th and I considered this last year. I didn't want to interfere with anyone's Halloween plans, or have anyone showing up in costume and scarring her.

My sister had my nephews 1st birthday as a Halloween party and it was a lot of fun. She also did the "our little pumpkin is turning one". I think it is a great idea!

I would advise against it. Most families already have set plans or traditions on Halloween and you may not get the turn out that you are hoping for. Also, you don't want anything to overshadow your baby's special day!

My daughter is turning one ON Halloween and we went through the same dilemma. Ultimately, we decided to go ahead and have her Birthday party on Halloween in the morning. Since we have a variety of ages, we rented a pavillion at the local park. Last year, I picked up some Halloween crafts (foam pumpkins) when they were 50% off. We will also probably do a pinata and then just let the kids play at the park. We did decide on a ladybug theme (which is also her Halloween costume) so I guess we are kind of mixing the Halloween theme & ladybug theme.
I don't see a problem with having it on Halloween as long as you don't have it too late (where it might interfere with Trick or Treating) since Haloween isn't an all day or a big family holiday (like Thanksgiving or Christmas).

It's a great idea. I think most people are open during the day and since Halloween falls on a Sat this year, it's perfect. Just go ahead with it and have a great time. it's the best holiday!

It sounds like a fun idea. If you like the idea, then go for it! Your little one certainly isn't going to care one way or the other. The older kids will love it, I'm sure.

When your daughter is older, let her decide. I had a neighbor who was a Halloween baby and she started to resent the holiday/birthday combo but not until she was pre-teen. Prior to that, she said it was great fun!
