Halloween Birthday Ideas

My son's b-day is on Halloween and his first b-day we had his party on Halloween, b/c it fell on a weekend. When it is not on a weekend we don't have them on the same day. I use Halloween decor and I pick a halloween theme such as pirates or creepy bugs. It goes really smooth. We don't do dress up yet, he is going to be 5. In later years we will probably have a costume party with his friends, but now we just have a hotdog roast and hayride. Hope this helps.

I would hold his party on a seperate day. We usually have a small family gathering on the date and then a bigger party or friend party at a later date.

You could make it a halloween craft party. You dont have to invest alot of money in supplies, you can use things you would normally throw away or recycle. I love craftbits.com they have all kinds of halloween craft ideas for kids out of recycled material. My daughter is 3 and loves doing all the crafts i have found on there. Whatever you come up with im sure your son is going to love it. Have a great time .

If you do it on Friday (Halloween) or Saturday, you can still make it Birthday special without it being too Halloweeny. Birthday decorations with fun games. The kids will be candied out - or their parents will want them to be - so fill a pinata with little dollar store toys like super balls and notepads. You can set up a game of Bozo buckets using carved out pumpkins for the buckets. Make it easier for little ones by getting big pumpkins and using tennis balls. You can pin the face on a jack-o-lantern.
Just some thoughts.

It might be fun to have two distinct rooms, or even two halves of a room--e.g. decorate the living room for Halloween, but then decorate the dining room for Birthday, and have everyone transition to the birthday room to cut the cake (or you could even do two halve's of a room--and set up your table half and half as well, with a Halloween table cloth and snacks on one end, and a birthday table cloth and cake, happy birthday plates, etc on the other end--I could imagine my child really getting excited by visually seeing two distinct celebrations, and knowing one was just for him!

My daughter is born October 24th, and we were SO hoping it would have been Halloween!! :) But we celebrate it that way anyway!! :)

We have bought pumpkins for the kids to paint with markers as their take home gift...that was big fun! And it can be pretty big pumpkins...for like $3 each if you find the right place! I put the kids names on the stems with tags so there wouldn't be any fighting over who's was who's pumpkin! (buy the pumpkins with stems for that). This year...we're going to do something like a "pumpkin hunt" which is like and Easter Egg hunt with the small pumpkins around the yard! Give each child a pumpkin basket to fill up with those...the pumpkin basket can be the take home gift ($1 at walmart).

I used colors of orange and purple to decorate...a little black in there too, but I thought orange and purple were a little less "Scarey" for a bday party. I also just bought the Halloween paper plates/napkins with orange & purple on there...those you can find anywhere now! Mine had pumpkins and withces on them for a girl...but I'm sure there are pumpkins and mummy's or dracula or something!

We got a cake of course, and just had a pumpkin on it...with a bday hat on his head!!

There is So many fun things you can do!!

I have a birthday on October 25. It was always very clear when we dressed up that it was my birthday! Hahaha. As long as they brought presents. I still have my pictures from so many years ago. Always was a gypsy. Anyway, there were birthday decorations and Halloween decorations. Just send out birthday invitations but you can say wear a costume and decorate for both! And have fun.

My son will also turn 3 on Halloween. I've polled every person I've met who has a Halloween birthday. They've either LOVED it or HATED it. Those who hated it had parents who didn't separate the 2 events or make them feel special. In the future I will always plan a bday party before Halloween unless my son specifically asks for a Halloween party. My soon to be 3 yr old has asked for a Spiderman Party, so that is what we plan to do, and probably on the 24th or 25th.

We have this problem too--my son was born on the 4th of July. This year we did have red, white and blue at the party, but he is also a big fan of Micky Mouse so for plates, cake, favors, etc we did Mickey things. Perhaps if your son is into a character you could do that theme, or a theme around his costume? I figure until he starts asking for a particular party type I'm not going to stress too much about it. Keep it a birthday party. Go with birthday decorations of your son's choosing, keep the day about him and his birthday not halloween.

Do a little of both-- have a MONSTER party, or a bug party. Something creepy or scary you can decorate with that goes both with Halloween, and a special birthday theme. You can make pizzas with spiders made out of pepperoni, and go to martha stewart's website on how to make streaming, monster-repellent punch with bug ice cubes, and bur or monster cupcakes. Just do a search for halloween and you will find it all.

You can get just about anything like that from Orientaltrading.com, even though it's made by kids for like 50 cents a day, or look someplace stateside.

My son's birthday is 10/26, and MY birthday is Christmas Eve.

In the future, to make it extra special for your son, I would separate his birthday party from Halloween. The other kids are excited about their costumes and trick-or-treating, that it will not be focused on your son, as it should be once a year. You could always acknowledge his birthday when he is out collecting candy on Halloween, but the day of his party should be about only him.

When I was growing up, my mom always had my birthday party a couple weeks before Xmas, and made sure there were no "combination gifts" or Xmas wrapping paper. I never felt jipped (as people have asked me throughout my life), and was made to feel that the day was mine.

This year I have planned my son's party for the day AFTER Halloween at Pump it Up. The kids may be in a sugar coma from the day before, so we'll see how it goes. Good luck.

my daughter was born on halloween too, but we've never had a combination halloween and birthday. For whatever reason, she's never asked either.

for me, it's fine. I've never liked halloween anyway. nothing against it, but it was just not my thing.

My SIL has a birthday around Christmas, and the older she got, the more important it was to her that birthday be separate from Christmas. The thing she hated the most was her birthday present wrapped in Christmas paper! Now that we have a child with a birthday near a holiday, we always make sure to keep the birthday separate from the holiday!!! I want my child to always remember how fun her birthday was, AND how fun Halloween was, as two separate days, like most all other children...

Hello! I'm a Halloween baby and I'll be 38 this year. When the decorations hit the store for Halloween I always think of my birthday and start to get excited. My parents embraced Halloween and I had a big costume or pumpkin decorating party every year. It's terrific fun.

As long as there is a birthday cake and presents it will feel like a birthday. And since Halloween is one of the greatest holidays for kids your son will have rockstar status as he gets older.

As he ages he might prefer to celebrate outside of Halloween (with character themes or whatever) but for now enjoy it. At least there's so much stuff you can get!

To your three-year-old son, it will be "all about him" anyway! That's just how young kids think! Colorful balloons or festive cupcakes will add to the feeling that this is a birthday. Also, the invitation posted on the fridge (which doesn't have to be halloween-related) is something that I do for my kids, anyway. Adds to the anticipation of the event. I actually have two relatives and two good friends born on Halloween. Very cool decorations --ideas are endless --from the scary to the harvest-type theme! Taste-of-Home magazine just published their October issue with some wonderful ideas. (Yes..I enjoy Halloween!) So many fun games to play, too - just personal message me if you want an idea or two. My son is also a halloween baby. What i usually do is make the theme whatever he decides his costume is going to be. Have fun!

Iam now 32 almost 33 and my birthday is also on Halloween. It is so hard having your birthday on a holiday! Growing up having my birthday on halloween was very hard for me and one thing my mother did for me which I thank her for was seperated my birthday from the holiday. So if I was you I would do birthday decorations for him. And then maybe when he is older he would want to do a halloween party with his friends and such. Good Luck to youl

I'm surprised at some of the responses you've got!! My son will be 4 this year and his birthday is the day after Halloween so we have done a kids party each year the weekend before Halloween and all the kids dress up (we do a separate family party due to the amount of people). We do Halloween decorations as well. We had a clown come for his last party (3) and will be having a Fun Bus come this year along with doing a Halloween craft. He loves it! His friends want to dress up for other parties we have just because that is what sticks in their minds.
When I was growing up my brother's birthday was also near Halloween and each year everyone dressed up for his birthday (still doing fun activities, like bowling or bobbing for apples or crafts, etc.) and we all loved it...I was excited that the theme to my son's parties would be easy each year and he would look forward to them.....
It's not like Halloween is some sacred holiday either....it's candy people....and whose kids don't get excited about dressing up and candy? And if you don't have a Halloween party to go to then really...you're missing out!

I would try to separate his birthday from Halloween it's always going to be a shared day which might make him feel jipped. Doesn't he like something like Thomas or Bob? Have him pick out his theme so it's something special for him - having Halloween decorations too can't hurt but go the the party store and maybe have him pick out plates, tabelecloth, napkins.

My son was born Oct 30 and we are having a Halloween themed b-day party for him. It is different than a halloween party because we will have birthday cake, balloons(orange and green) and of course gifts. Your guests can still receive goodie bags just like a b-day party. After reading everyone's responses I feel unsure if I will continue the Halloween themed b-day party in the future but as long as the child knows it is his/her special day I think we are fine.
