I am 20 and was on DEPO shot for a year and half and my last shot was last December. I just have a couple questions to ease my mind. I am 165 at 4'9" so Im a good bit over weight and ill admit that. Does being over-weight really effect your chances of pregnancy? and Has anyone been over-weight had problems and then got healthy and got pregnant? Also with anyone that took the DEPO how long after it wore off did you achieve pregnancy. Sorry for all the scattered questions Im just needing some help. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

What is your rush? My goodness you're scarcely more than a baby yourself! :P

Seriously, if I wanted to get pregnant (at your young age) I would spend at least 6 months getting myself in fantastic shape physically. I would lose all the weight I wanted to lose, detox myself from caffeine and unnatural substances, and get my nutrition as wholesome and perfect as I could. That way my future baby would have a great start. And if I don't get pregnant, at least I'm in great shape.

Mentally I would do some work with a counselor to make sure I'm emotionally ready for a child. Have I healed my inner childhood traumas? Have I dealt with any traumatic experiences? Am I balanced in my spirit? Is there anything else in my life's path that I need or want to do before I become a mom?

These are just some thoughts for you - I hope everything works out for you the way it is supposed to! Nurture yourself, so that you can then nurture your babies.

JMO.

ETA: Did I see another mom mention you already have a child? Well, I still agree with getting myself physically and mentally healthy for the next one. Babies are a blessing!

As far as the weight issues, there are some conditions that may be involved with weight gain and difficulty in becoming pregnant... PCOS is one of them.. (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).... however, since you've already had one child, that most likely isn't the case. PCOS typically causes menstrual irregularities (difficulty in becoming pregnant) and weight issues.

I agree with other posters, and suggest that you wait a bit and make sure you are really ready to have a child, both physically and mentally... your family will be better off in the long run.

Ultimately, only your health care provider can tell you for sure.

Depo takes a long long time to get out of your system especially after being on it a yr and a half. I was over weight and became pregnant. You've only been off the shot for 3 months so you need to weight a little while longer and then see. I say keep having fun and if by December nothing has happened talk to your obgyn

Everything that I have read about Depo indicates that you can have a baby beginning about 4 months after your last shot, with the average being 1-2 years later.

Are your cycles regular?

Are you charting to determine if you are ovulating regularly? If you aren't ovulating regularly then it will take you longer to get pregnant, unless you luck into it.

I would start charting BBT.

I was on Depo for 11 years. I switched to the pill for a year, then it took 6 months to get pregnant. I'm 5ft, 170# when I got pregnant. Being overweight didn't seem to affect anything.
