my daughter has been a tummy sleeper since she was about 2 months old and could roll over on her own. yes, she rolled over very early but I guess she found that position much more comfortable than her back. She was a horrible sleeper on her back. I've never heard of a nap nanny either. Good luck!

Reflux was my first thought too.Given that she sleeps comfortably in the Nap Nanny. Have you discussed it with her doctor? If not, it's essential that you do. You might also try swaddling her. Mine oldest wanted to be swaddled until he was around 6 months old. Now they make the swaddling blankets with the velcro in larger sizes.

When you say she's sleeping a few hours you can't necessarily expect her to be sleeping thru the night at her age. She's only 5 months old. Some babies do and some don't.

I bring my Nap Nanny everywhere. My idea is that when my little one is ready to sleep flat, she will! She sleeps so comfortably and peacefully in the Nap Nanny that I really see no sense in making her sleep elsewhere. The Nap Nanny is safe and comfortable for her to sleep in.. so why not? We travel with our Nap Nanny everywhere, though I can see why you might not want to. Since our daughter will only sleep in her Nap Nanny, we just make do! It's only a couple of pounds so it's not that difficult! Good luck!

I have never heard of a nap nanny. Why not put her on her side to sleep? I used to just roll up a blanket and put it behind my babies' backs to help them stay on their sides. Soon she should be rolling over and then she can, also, sleep on her tummy if she wants.

I don't have an answer for you, but I'm dealing with the same thing. My son is 6 months old and can sit up on his own and roll over both directions. He sleeps in the Nap Nanny because he has reflux, but it's under control now and he doesn't need to use it. But it cradles him so differently than laying flat, he freaks when I lay him in his crib. What did you end up doing?

I have no clue what a nap nanny is..... 2 of my 3 kids were tummy sleepers. And if I remember correctly, around 5 months is when a child starts to turn over anyway, so shouldn't your child be allowed the chance to learn to turn over (both back to tummy and tummy to back) to find her own comfortable sleeping position?

Hi D., I am assumeing that you are using the "Nap Nanny" to keep your daughter on her back durring sleep because of the latest SIDS information. Here's my suggestion. Put your daughter in nice warm footie sleepers and take everything out of her crib (blankets, pillows & stuffed animals) and let her sleep whatever way she wants to. Now I don't mean to trivalize SIDS, but when my oldest was a baby they said "infants must sleep on their tummies." Then when my middle one was an infant they said "infants must sleep on their sides". With my third they went from side to back sleeping. There is only 5 years between the three of them! Common sense makes me think that once a infant can turn over by themselves at will you can no longer control how they sleep...just their enviroment. Do you sleep on your back without moving at night? Or on your side or stomac? Why should children old enough and strong enough to move be any different? Sure you have to use caution and common sense and remove any possible hazzards from their crib and room. But a normal healthy child will sleep all over the place until they find that perfact "spot" and position that suits them best. Just like we do! Best wishes.

You don't write how old your child is... some babies have problems sleeping flat on their backs due to reflux. Even if you daughter does not have reflux per se, babies eat frequently... imagine yourself just having downed a bottle of formula and then laying down on your back without a pillow - I would be uncomfortable too.
Depending on your sleeping arrangements overseas, you could try to wean her to a wedge pillow. My daughter also disliked lying flat, she was always congested and elevating her head helped. When were were travelling overseas, I stuck a few books under one side of her pack and play and that worked.

My daughter was in a Nap Nanny around the same age. I started putting her down for naps without it first on a Thursday. She cried and cried. We did that for about 2 days and then on Friday night we went without it. She did ok, but there was a transition period with lots of crying. I would still get it out when she had a cold, and she would transition back without problems. I hope this helps.
