Trouble Finding a Comfortable Position to Sleep In!

I usually sleep on my belly and now that my belly popped this position is no longer an option. I have read about those body pillows that help with sleeping on the side, but was wondering whether they really work. Any suggestions?
Thanks

I too am a belly sleeper. When I had my two daughters body pillows weren't on the market yet. I used a medium firm King size pillow. It worked great! It allowed me to sleep as close to on my belly as was comfortable. The body pillows I have seen may have too much loft to be comfortable for a belly sleeper. Experiment... you may find a soft pillow works now, but later on a fatter pillow will be necessary. Body pillow may work well, too, especially for sleeping completely on one's side.

I was uncomfortable the last 2months of pregnancy and the body pillow was great!! I suggest trying it. I just told a pregnant colleague the same thing the other day. Hang in there, the end result is worth the sleepless nights and help to prepare you for what it will be like for the first few months. Congrats:)

R.,
First let me say CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! May GOD bless your pregancy and your baby.

Now about the pillow............this is just the beginning of becoming uncomfortable, it goes with the territory. But what a great thing to be uncomfortable about! My experience was that you can never have enough pillows and the body pillow was a great addition. But everyone has to find what works for them. I have horrible pregnancy, nauseous from conception through delivery.........so any bit of comfort was a blessing. I hope you can find some comfort!

Best of everything,

Personally I used 5 regular sleeping pillows and manipulated them to where I wanted them. I felt like I had more control than a body pillow could give me. After I had my son, a couple of friends also got pregnant and used the body pillows and raved about them. I've always been a side sleeper (and a bit a control freak lol) but it sounds like a body pillow would do wonders for you as a belly sleeper.

Hi R. Y:

When I was pregnant with my daughter I found that I wanted to sleep on my tummy also, the pregnancy pillow was a life saver; got it from Babys-R-Us; you can also find at Ideal Baby Furniture stores. They may even have them in Walmart or K-Mart now; my daughter is seven.

R.,

I found that sleeping with a king size pillow between my knees, and on my left side, the pillow was one big enough to hug at the same time really helped me sleep. This is what I did with my first pregnancy and then through my second and third. I became so accustom to the feeling and the fact that it was very comfortable that I still sleep that way to this day.

Good Luck.

I acknowledge that you usually sleep on your belly BUT that is the worst of all position for your body ... in any condition! The best position is to lay on your side - best for all parts of your body. Use a pillow between your knees. Yes the body pillows are great.

After the baby, if you don't want to stay on your side, go to your BACK. This is best for your organs and also your neck. Think about it - if you are lying on your belly your head is turned either right or left for X amount of time. Now stand up and try walking around with your head turned to the side for hours upon end. Not a good idea.

Good Luck on your first time around!

I generally sleep towards my right side with my left knee bent up on top of a big pillow, this worked for me through my pregnancy and still does. In the radiology field this position is called RAO right anterior oblique. I hope this helps, Good Luck! www.DiscoveryToysLink.com/LisaRyan

They work! Go out and get yourself a body pillow and start sleeping better. I'm so addicted to my body pillows (Yes, I have 2..one on each side of me) that I cannot sleep without them. I bought my first one with my first pregnancy...the second with my second pregnancy and I slept a whole lot better with my third pregnancy... and they've never left my bed since. You don't need those "specialty" pregnancy pillows. Any body pillow (with enough loft) will do.

The body pillows are great. You can lay half way like almost on your stomach but on the pillow. They have them in the satiny type material which keeps you cool and comfortable. I used them during and after pregnancy. Congrat's and good luck.

I am pg too with my first child. I used to be a belly sleeper before pregnancy, but that became impossible early on. I couldn't get comfortable with regular pillows and I kept having to adjust the pillows all night long. My back also started to hurt. I bought a pregnancy pillow from Baby Love and it has been great. I got the kind that is shaped sort of like a "U" because I toss from side to side at night and didn't want to have to switch the pillow back and forth in the middle of the night. For me, it has definitely been worth it.

I'm ~27 weeks pregnant with my second child and I swear by those u shaped pregnancy pillows. I loved it with my first pregnancy and can't live it without it for this pregnancy either. I sleep with the u part at my feet because I prefer my regular pillow for my head but it's the only way I sleep comfortably at night. I sleep on my side with the pillow between my legs(or under my top my leg if my bottom leg is straight) and it keeps my legs from sticking together at night and and my hips/back/knee feeling well supported. Also it's easy to flip sides in the middle of the night and wrap my leg around the other side of the u without having to adjust the pillow. I have lower back pain and find this really helps alleviate that at night. The pillow is huge, it wasn't cheap, and it takes up a lot of the king size bed which my husband doesn't like but he deals with it because it makes me happy. (Also, it helps to keep him from coming on to me in the middle of the night now because it acts as a barrier which has been nice since my sex drive is completely gone with this pregnancy!) Bottom line, try a king size pillow or a body pillow if you already have one between your legs and partially supporting your belly (even if it's not big yet) and see if it seems comfortable. IF so, investing in one of these is probably a good choice! Good luck.
