I have the exact same problem. I got a catalog in the mail the other day for OneStepAhead. There are 2 in there that I am trying to decide on. You probably can look it up on their website. www.onestepahead.com

So here's my situation - we went to see the inlaws this weekend and my 22 month old son is now as long as the pack-n-play - so there was not much sleep going on for any of us. We have never slept with him in our bed - so when we tried to put him in bed with us he freaked out. At home he's still in a crib - and is all over the bed at night. We are going to stay with friends in 2 weeks in Puerto Rico - and now I have no idea what do do with him at night. Any recommendations? I also think the beachfront condo they are in is all tile - so I'm worried about just putting him on the floor!

We're dealing with the exact same problem right now--we're at my parents' house as I write, and DD's too big for her pack n play. My mom got one of those inflatable toddler beds with attached sleeping bag, and it's worked great.
We're leaving tomorrow to go to a cabin in the mountains, and we'll just deflate, pack it up, and bring it with. If DS is used to a crib, he may roll out of it, but it's no biggie, since he's only 6 inches off the floor. My DD did the first night, but we just put two bedpillows on the floor next to her bed, and she's been fine ever since (sometimes wakes up with her feet on the pillows instead of the bed, but that's just fine!) GL!
Check with the condo to see if you can rent a crib. Be sure to ask if it's an actual crib or a pack n play. Also, you can rent cribs frmo baby gear rental companies. Google "baby gear rental" and see what you can find. Here's an example of one place: www.babytravelpros.com
Also, there are inflatable sleeping bags for kids. They are around $25 at Target and have disney characters, etc. on them. We got them a couple weeks before leaving for a trip and let them take naps on them at the house and get use to them. We called it a "special trip bed." We put it away a few days before the trip so it would be neat-o and new again once we arrived at our destination.
One time when my daughter was about that age, we went on a trip and on the advice of a travel book, we brought along a little pop-n-play tent and made a bed for her in there, with folded up bedspreads underneath to cushion it. It gave her a private space to sleep in. Another thing you could try is an inflatable mattress. Also, you can get kid's sleeping bags with an attached inflatable bottom.
When my son was that age we started using a toddler sized blow-up bed. His is Lightning McQueen and it has a sheet/cover that zips onto it like a sleeping bag. For travel it rolls up to the size of a small sleeping bag. We got ours at Target, it has been wonderful for going to friends house and traveling.
My aunt and uncle have a blow up mattress that has sides that they use for their grandkids. I searched online and I think this is it!
Have fun on your trip!

We used Kidco Peapods! They have been wonderful! http://www.kidco.com/main.taf?p=4,5
(hope the link works). We have the large ones (red & blue).
We still have them so let me know if you want additional pics or need some personal feedback on them.
Check on the leapsandbounds website, they sell a travel tent for kids. It folds up small, has an air mattress you can blow up (although we've never used the air mattress), it will fit in your suitcase easliy. We have used it on several trips and our now 3 yr old loves it. He would cry and beg to sleep in his tent after we got home!
My nephew is 3 and still sleeps in the pack n play when he's here (he lives with us most of the time). Although it seems your son is as long as the pack n play I assure you he will still be comfortable in it if he gets used to it. I suggest having him take a few naps in it or sleep in it while you're at home and he's in familiar surroundings and routine.
Some hotels carry portable cribs, which are a little smaller than a regular crib but larger than a p&p. See if yours has one. If not, you may need to get a king sized bed and let him sleep with you just this one time.:)
They have small children's sleeping bags. That may be rathur hard to pack to go to Puerto Rico, but they are make like little animals or teddy bears. Just a thought.
You could purchase a twin size air mattress and blow it up when you get to your destination.
No experience, but I've heard many recommendations for Peapod Plus (as recommended by a PP). I hear kids quickly grow out of the regular Peapod. I am about to buy two of them myself. They are kind of expensive, but they fold up small...and diapers.com even has free return shipping and price matches...so that would help if you wanted to send it back. I've heard kids even like taking naps (at home) in them. There are a couple of color options. You can view it at amazon to look at the many reviews. http://www.amazon.com/Kidco-PeaPod-Indoor-Outdoor-Travel/...
Pak-n-Play made by Graco or Cosco. Portable Crib
I have the same problem with my 28 month old. She is long, plus moves all over the place. She was so uncomfortable in the pack 'n play!

can you buy an air matress?
We purchased an Aero bed which fits in a duffle bag and you blow it up once you get to your destination. Has a pump that plugs in to blow it up. Sold at Target, Walmart and the like. We have gotten a lot of use out of ours. Both our boys sleep on it and you just put on the floor. Hope that helps!
find a large chest of drawers drawer and place a baby blanket or two in the bottom of it. good luck.
I found a great little cot on the WalMart website. It folds up nicely and stores in a bag. It is great for flying because it is the right size to carry on the plane. It is only about 4 inches from the ground so I don't worry if my child rolls off.
I agree with the inflatable sleeping bag idea. My son, who is now three, sleeps on one on trips and when he visits his aunt. It inflates like a little air mattress and has a sleeping bag that attaches to the mattress. We got ours at Walmart for about $30. I think it is called an EZ Bed???
