So What Happened?

Thanks for everyone's responses... Never know there are such differences between them. So today I purchased all three types of tortillas and going to try them out one by one, then see which one I like the best. ^_^

I prefer the taste and texture of flour tortillas, but corn tortillas are much lower in fat and calories.

It depends on what you are making. If it's a wrap, then I would go with flour or whole wheat. Corn tortillas aren't as "bendy" as those. If it's a breakfast taco (veggies, egg, cheese, beans, whatever) I'd go with corn. I just like the taste. Also, corn holds up better when making enchiladas.

I like corn for some dishes and flour for others. It really depends on the taste you are wanting to have. Get some of both and cook some hamburger for soft tacos and try them different ways to see which you like better. Floour is a much less dominating flavor and I use them for dishes like sour cream chicken enchiladas. Corn is more yummy to me when I am having tacos or something where I want that Mexican full flavor.

HI M.,
I got this info
From MedicineNet.com: Flour tortillas have up to 150 calories each, corn tortillas about 50 calories. The flour types have around 30% calories from fat, compared with 10% for corn tortillas. Flour tortillas have about 140 milligrams of sodium, while corn tortillas have just 1 milligram. So corn is your clear choice here.

I think it's just a matter of personal preference. I love flour tortillas and really dislike corn tortillas. Also, some are more popular/common for certain dishes, so it may depend on what you're making.
They also sell whole wheat tortillas now if you want something healthier than regular flour.

Corn! Corn is also the healthier choice -although if you're going to roll them up and dip them in queso, I like the flour ones.

Better and healthier are not always the same. Both are tasty! Corn is usually fried, so while they have less fat and more fiber (not a ton) it usually takes more fat to prepare them. Flour tortiallas are usually made with quite a bit more fat, but don't require fat to prepare. You can get whole wheat, and low fat varieties, which make them a better health choice. They are not interchangeable in recipes though. Enchladas, tostadoas, crispie tacos, all require corn, and burritos, soft tacos and cheese crisps require flour.

A mexican (or his wife) has both...at all times! Mine could eat them for breakfast, with beans. I think flour is tasty with chirrzio and eggs...

Ahh, the tortilla. For tacos I like a deep fried tortilla, for enchilada's a corn tortilla, and for almost everything else a flour tortilla. Quesadilla's I like either flour or corn. Growing up, there was no such thing as a wheat flour tortilla, but now that I have tried them, I have no problem with them.

Growing up we used to eat flour tortilla's buttered and with a sprinkle of salt or with peanut butter, both rolled up and eaten like you would a wrap. We never thought to put a full sandwich in there.

Which is most healthy? I would say the wheat flour, as it is easier to digest.
