Too Much Poop? - Cleveland,TN

Should I be worried if my 11 month old DD has started pooping a lot? She used to be very regular... Every day before her nap she would go, and that was that. This week though she has started going 3-4 times a day!!! Her diet hasn't really changed in the last week... she is on table foods and breast milk. She is still happy and active... I suspect she could be teething again, so maybe that has something to do with it... They are slightly smaller than normal sized, and their normal consistency so I don't know whats up... I don't MIND changing her, but it's such a difference from what has been the norm for her that it makes me wonder....

What can I do next?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Mention it at her one year appt to the pediatrician and keep an eye out for correlations. If she's teething again that most likely is the cause. If you find a correlation with a particular food item (ours was animal crackers from 12-18 mos - processed with nuts), you may want to probe further to see if she is developing a sensitivity or allergy. Babies tend to be sensitive to juices, as I'm sure you know. Has her juice intake increased or are you cutting it with less water? More than likely it's nothing. I would just make a mental note of her diet for awhile to see if there are any correlations and mention it casually to your pediatrician at the next visit. :D

That's not necessarily a problem. The reasoning, though, could indeed be because of teething; or if you've eaten something different (since you say that she has breastmilk).

I think thats a good thing. Experts say everyone should be pooping after every meal. Its meaning that everything going in is coming out and not just sitting in the colon. My DS has been pooping 3 times a day since I put him on table foods. He is now 2.

I would be more worried if she didn't poop or if she had the runs. It may be her new norm for a while.
