Too Many Periods in a Month

Hello everyone. In June my period came 1 week early. In July I was 4 days late and it lasted for 9 days. Then I spotted for 4 days and then I started my period again on the 5th day. It's just like a normal period with the cramping and everything. I had a tubal 2 1/2 years ago right after I had my son, so I don't take birth control or anything. I don't want to take b/c cuz I have a very high family history of cancer and different health issues. I will appreciate any insight anyone can offer.

What can I do next?

J.,

It sounds the beginning of menopause to me. I was lucky enough to have a family gift of early menopuase. I am 46 and completely through it. I wish you luck with all you're going through!

A little about me:

I'm 46 year old single Mom of 3 boys, 7, 9 & 11.

When my periods went crazy, it was a fibroid. I had to have it surgically removed, but a lot of women have them and are asymptomatic. You could also look into Endometrial Ablation, if you discover there is no underlying issue!

Could be pre-menopausal you're the right age...could also be thyroid related. You should probably go to the Dr. and get checked out.

Hi J.

To me it sounds as if you are peri-menopausal. I know I am going through it and your symptoms sound familiar.

Welcome to mid life.

Lots of possibilities, but I and one of my daughters had lots of problems in our early 40's which I now believe were peri-menopause. The one thing I read that made the most sense to me was that, just as puberty is a long, gradual process, so is the process leading to menopause. I'd check with your doctor, though, because it could be something worse. It also looks like you're under a lot of stress. Stress is wicked stuff, however unavoidable, and can really mess with your body. There may be some natural answers that you could check out. I took hormones but now we know they are dangerous. Good luck!

Hi J., Sounds like you've had a rough way to go!

You've received lots of good advice about getting this checked out medically!

I'm just curious...are you on medications for the other health issues? How are you dealing with the stress?

What have you heard about how perimenopause changes your system?

I have a couple of very helpful CDs that you are welcome to if learning more about what could be going on in your body is the way you want to go. Let me know.

warmly, M. G

Whatever you do, don't let them talk you into a total hysterectomy. I had one the year after my treatment for breast cancer and if you had to ask me which of those two things more negatively impacted my life, I would say the hysterectomy, hands down. They have a relatively new procedure where the cauterize the lining of the uterus. After my "Resist the Hyst" speech to two of my sisters, they both had it done for excessive bleeding and had fabulous results.

You need to make an appointment with your GYN. This could be from a few different things - hormone imbalance, fibroids, etc. If you have a high incidence of cancer in your family, you need to make sure it's not something serious.

Is there a chance that you could have been pregnant? Your July period may have been an early miscarriage.
Since you said that birth control is not an option for you are you interested in Natural Family Planning? You can track/chart you cycle to both avoid pregnancy and achive it. It also works through the menopause years. If you are interested check out ccli.org

I had the same kind of thing a couple of years ago. The doctor checked everything, and it ended up being my body's reaction to too much stress. I had too many hormones being produced and my body couldn't stabilize itself. Absolutely go to your doctor right away to rule out more serious issues, but don't stress out! They just put me on birth control for a couple of months to get my hormones in check, and then everything was fine.

Well J. I would have to agree with the others - go see your OBGYN. It could be many things, you are the right age for peri-menopause which can really mess with your cycle and your mood swings. The Dr. is the one best able to tell you what it could be and help you deal with it whatever it is.
Good luck with it.

I would make an appointment with your OBGYN. There are many things that could be causing this ... menopause, fibroid tumor, or hormonal imbalance not related to menopause to name a few. Particularly with your family history, you should seek medical advice.

J.~ I had a similar thing happen and when I went to the Dr. to find out what was wrong they did a pregnancy test and it was positive. Unfortunately it was a doomed pregnancy. They were never sure if it was tubal or if it just started to expel before they could find it on ultra sound. I hope this isn't your case but I'd do a test just to make sure. Or maybe it's just the stress of doing through a divorce. I know stress can do funny things to our cycles. Good luck.

You need to go see your doc about this. Could be a symptom of something, especially with a family history.
