Toliet Training a Toddler

I have four children in my house and I have never had this problem before. I have a little girl that is going to be three in November, and she is not yet potty trained. I have tried all things that I know of but she simply has no interest in doing it at all. I am at my wits end with this problem and I don't know what else to try.

What can I do next?

I also am a mother of 4 and had the same problem with my 3rd. I was told boys were harder. My girls were a breeze. Ethan was 4 before I got him potty trained. I used preschool as a tool to get him to go. He wants to go to school so bad, that finally did it. Now I have a 22 month old yet to get potty trained. Hopefully he will be easier. He does tell me sometimes after he has gone in his diaper. I found that rewards didn't work for Ethan. I didn't use punishment, but telling him he won't be able to get something worked better for us.

I would not push her. Sometimes at this age of finding new independance, she may be rebelling. If you had all of your other children potty trained by this age, you should consider yourself very lucky. Girls are typically easier than boys, but they all know the concept before they're willing to do it. My son is almost 2 1/2, and we've been working on this for a year, just a little at a time. He likes peeing outside, which is not really an option for a little girl, but it's on his own terms. He'll sit on the potty and tell me he's trying, but he's never gone in it yet. I think you might find if you let up a little, she may decide on her own that it's time to be a big girl.

Hate to say it, but it doesn't sound like she's ready. We didn't start until 3 mos before ours turned 3, and we just sat her on the pot in front of her favorite show(s) until she went, then celebrated like it was New Year's when she went. Her seeing that reaction motivated her to do it again, and it was relatively painless. You can't force these things.........

I didnt use this for my son...however a sitter of mine, suggested it. (he was already trained by the time she told me about it) But I thought it was a brilliant idea!!!

She puts Goldfish crackers in the toilet...just a few. She then tells her child to try and pee on them. I know it sounds kind of silly and the odds of the child actually being able to, are slim. However, it gives them something to focus on.

I thought it was a great idea! I'll be using it in the future if I should have more children.

Good luck!!!

Hi! If you look through some of the past requests, I typed out how I got both of my kids potty trained. It's long enough that I know I don't have time to type it out right now. You could also go under my profile and find it easier that way. I just thought I'd tell you to look at it because my little girl potty trained in just over a week (I consider "potty trained" when they're telling you everytime they need to go potty) and my son was trained in 3 days! Good luck, I know how frustrating it is!

She may not be ready but if she is try stickers. My son loves stickers and everytime he went he got to add a new sticker to the lid of the potty chair. I would clap and praise also.
