Toddler Walking - Hendersonville,TN

My little girl is 13 months old. She shows every sign of being able to walk, but absolutely has no desire to do so. She can crawl faster than the speed of light and I think she just likes that option. That's pretty normal, right?

What can I do next?

Its actually really good for their brain development. You hear of children that never really crawled just started walking. They have to be taught later how to crawl-its that important! My daughter is a wiz and she didn't walk until she was about 15 months. Don't stress. Just remember that its really good for her and really normal.

dont stress on "normal", some babies can take up to 18 months to walk.

Yeah, sounds about right. I thought my older son would be an early walker, because he was early to crawl and also to pull up and walk along the couch, but he didn't take his first step until he was about 10-11 m/o, and fell, and then refused to try to walk until he was about 13 m/o. And he's still of that personality - if it doesn't come easy to him, he doesn't like to do it. Come to think of it, I'm that way. Hmm... :-)

She'll start walking when she realizes it's a better form of locomotion - like when she realizes she can move things from one place to another by walking when she can't by crawling. Sure, she can drag it, but she'll see walking is better. Sometime.

My son didn't start walking until 13 months. By that time he was already climbing everything. We finally decided that it was because every time he stood up our 3 over protective dogs would surround him. He learned to walk in a moving RV when he was about 13.5 months old. Don't worry, your little angel will walk in her own time and when she does she will be running right after that.

Yes, completely normal! My daughter is same age and doing the same thing. Wish she would walk so her clothes would stop being so dirty!!! LOL.

my son did not walk until he was about 15 ms old. one night i was sitting on the couch and he was sitting in the middle of the living room floor. he reached out and put his palms flat on the floor, pushed himself into a standing position, and took off down the hallway. needless to say i had to pick my chin up off the floor!!! i say its very normal!

My son is 14 months- exact same thing. Except we just started to put shoes on him. Now he just stands there and cries :( he refuses to crawl with them on too..

From what I keep hearing its normal- even though i've wondered myself. I didn't walk till I was 14 months. He is a bit over 14 months and would rather crawl or be carried! :)

I'll chime in with everyone else - totally normal. My son started cruising at around 8 months and didn't take the initative to walk on his own until 14 months. He is still that way now at 3 - he does things when he is good and ready.

Completely normal! I know it's a little frustrating when you know they are strong enough to walk but still prefer to crawl. My baby girl was around 15 months when she started walking. On the other hand, my son was 9 months...lol. Every baby is different. I would say if she's not walking by her 18 month checkup then that's when you should see if there's an issue.

She's still within "normal'. Babies who crawl well often don't walk until later. Why mess with a good thing, they think!!! I have one with the same issue!

Different kids start walking at different ages.
My son also used to crawl at the speed of light.
It was totally amazing to watch him get across the room.
He started walking around 15-16 months.
Do not be concerned.
My son started skiing, surfing, riding a bike, etc.,
at appropriate ages and all very competently.
Today he and his lovely wife are the parents of two healthy sons.
