Do you think it's possible that my 2 1/2 yr old could be allergic to the plastic potty training seats that sit on top of the regular toilet? The rash on her bottom is the length of how she sits on the seat.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I started re-doing all her laundry and went back to the powder Tide detergent and went back to using the free of dyes and perfume bounce fabric softner and her legs started looking much better. I however believe that she had some big spots of eczema and when I switched the two products it made it break out even worse. I started putting Eucerin on her legs and they look so much better now.

Hi J.,

I agree that it could be the plastic or what you are using to clean the seat. Children's skin is typically much more sensitive than adults. Many plastics are made with ingredients/chemicals that can be very irritating, such as phthalates. He may also have an allergy to latex, which could be found in there too.

I would try covering the seat with a different material or getting a different seat all together. Also, try using safer alternatives to clean it with, like just simple soap and water. Many of our everyday personal care items and household cleaners contain irritating or harmful chemicals as well. I could recommend some safer alternatives, if you like.

Good luck!
Sincerely, T. S.

I have heard of children who are allergic to the plastic in the diapers of some brands so anything is possible. Also, it could be what you are using to clean the potty seat with that she is reacting to (as it may be to harsh for that sensitive, ususally unexposed skin).

Hey J.,

I couldn't tell you anything one way or another, but you could try wrapping the seat in fabric that she's not allergic to and see if the rash goes away. You could also quit using the training seat and see if she'll sit on the toilet as is.

Hi J.,

Yes, it is very possible that she is allergic to the plastic on the potty training seat. Try watching what you are using to clean it, or covering it with something to avoid direct contact to her skin.

As far as the eczema goes, my daughter (now 2 and half as well) has battled with eczema since she was 2 months old. Her doctor told me to just start to use the Aveno Oatmeal bath, by that did not help out too much. My friend introduced me to the Arbonne baby line because he son was going through the same problem. But after 2 days of using the Arbonne products, her itchy, red, dry skin cleared up, and now 2 years later, she does not have any issues with it. I did a lot of research and found that there are a lot of products out there (especially baby products) that can actually make eczema worse or even cause it. Arbonne is a botancially based company that does not use mineral oil, dyes or fragrances, or animal by-products. I have been with my Arbonne business since June of 2006 and have came across a lot of mothers in your situation, but have found great results with the products. I would love to send you a Free sample for you to try for your daughter for you to see what results you receive. My email is ____@____.com you can find out a lot of information at our website about eczema and the best products to use at www.arbonne.com.
Thank you so much, and I wish you the best of luck!
