About 4 weeks ago and last night my almost 2 year old (will be 2 on the 17th of this month) woke up around 11:00 at night crying histerically, moaning, tossing and turning and couldn't seem to get comfortable. I brought him into bed with me. Tried everything possible to make him comfortable he would kick and moan, toss like crazy get up on all fours like a cat stretch. Finally I thought of my sister in law whose son has growing pains. I started messaging his legs, his back and he seemed fine. As soon as I would stop he woould cry histerically again. Finally gave in about 2 hours later and gave him motrin. He fell asleep about a half hour later. Woke up again and it lasted until 3:00 in the morning. I thought maybe gas, so i tried burping him, I tried giving him water, changed his pamper took off his clothes everything, the only thing that will work was massaging his legs. But isn't he too young to start the growing pains? Should I mention this to his doctor? I never even heard of it until my sister-in-law started to go through it with her son. Have any of you moms experienced this, do you think it might be something different?

What can I do next?

He could be having growing pains, muscle cramps...or a night terror. Of course you should mention it to your doctor, but I would also document times and durations...it will help get to the bottom of it.

Two of my kids suffer from that. We discovered that hot pads, those that are a blue gel and you can hot in the microwave, are magic!. They stop crying almost inmediatly. just 26 seconds in the mwave and of course use it with its fabric cover.
good luck

No its not to young... 2 of my sons went through the exact same thing.. and my 12 yr old still wakes in the middle of the night if he has been playing hard that day... I had the same pains when I was little.. having them sleep in pajama pants helps.. basically keeping the legs warm(I use to sleep in leg warmers..lol).. my 4 year old sleep in pants year round because it never fails if he sleeps in shorts he wakes up crying. Motrin takes the edge off but the warmth does the trick. And I would mentioned it to the ped but Im sure its normal. Godspeed! =)

Yes, I would mention it to the doctor. I would definitely take your doctor's opinion as to whether you need to change diet or anything. After looking at our diet, my pediatrician feels my daughter's growing pains are not a deficiency. We find a hot water bottle helps the average ones, but the ones that make her wake up crying usually need Motrin. Those don't happen too often, though.

Take him off dairy products including all soy. HIs body is not breaking it down. I see this exact thing with many children. The reason he responds to the deep massage is because you are applying proprioceptive input to his body and sending calming chemicals to his brain. There are many great exercises to manage getting him more proprioceptive.

So called growing pains means that a child is missing nutrients he or she needs to grow- is there pain- you bet- pain from not having what is needed to make the body they are growing.
Run and get "Nourishing Traditions"- the best cook book- it is not expensive- and it will give you and your children what is needed to make a body.
Also well nourshied littles ones means you 'll be able to sleep.
Sleep well, k
