My son is 16 months old and I am wondering when is the best time to break his crib down to his toddler bed. My sister did it for my nephew when he was 24 months. I am thinking of waiting until then. Let me know what you think.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well he hasn't tried to climb out yet. I will wait until he is 24 months. Thanks to everyone with advice.

I had each of my 3 children in their toddler beds about 1 month before their 2nd birthday. I also know a couple of people that waited longer because they weren't ready for their child to be able to get in and out of bed on their own. I thought it was best to get them out because it made it easier with potty training. Good Luck.

My daugther just moved actually to a full bed from the crib at 18 1/2 months. They day after she climbed out of her crib we switched her. We found it easier to go straight to the full bed. She was all over the toddler bed and wouldn't stay in it as well as the full bed.

So I would say wait as long as possible until they are starting to climb out.

Hi R.,

Usually when a child starts climbing out of his/her crib, that's a good sign that they are ready for a toddler bed. That mostly happens around 24 months or so.

My three year old was starting to scream when I put her in her crib when she was 15 months old.She couldn't climb out yet but it seamed like the bars were getting to her.We hadn't even bought a toddler bed yet when I took her crib apart.I had to lay the matress on the floor for a couple nights until we got one but she started going to sleep again. The morral of my story is that I believe he will let you know when he is ready. He could be now and maybe not till he's 2.I hope this helps you for when you decide to make the transition.Good luck:)
