Our new little guy is coming in November so I have to move our 21 month old out of the crib and into either a toddler bed or twin mattress on the floor. I am not sure which idea I like better and I don't know what he would adjust better to. I would love to hear some feedback from experienced mommies. The toddler bed is cute but seems, in the long run, impractical, and the twin overpowers the room but would be the best monetary bet. I appreciate any advice!
So we went the toddler bed route because there just isn't enough room for a bed let alone a twin mattress and our son is going to get hit with so many changes soon with a new brother that we wanted to take the least "big" change possible. He loves the bed but has only slept in it one full night and part of the second night. Tonight he is in his crib. I don't know if it is because he hasn't been as tired or the bed excites him so much to the point of hyperness but I am seriously regretting not having bought a crib that converts into a toddler bed then a regular bed the first time around to keep him in there until later and to just buy a new convertible crib now. We'll see, though. We still have three months until the new guy arrives. I really appreciate everyone's input. It was nice to get so many responses with everyone's different experiences. Thanks!
You can find toddler beds at garage sales pretty cheep then you would not be out that much money. Toddlers love to have a bed their size and the transfer is easier from the crib to the bed.

I have a son 31/2 years old & I used for him the top of the bunk bed(twin) which has railings around. It works perfect for me. You can lower the legs for security by cutting them.
Right now I'm using for him the bottom of the bunk bed with the full size because he likes to have more space and the upper twin bed on it's place.. typical bunk bed.
Bunk bed with full and twin size and which you can separate them side by side was my answer. Long term and lot's of flexibility.
Of course in this stage we have to hide the ladder.

hi, i have a 4yr old still sleeping on her toddler bed , and she loves it!The first week it was hard for her she would fall out of her bed,she tends to move alot in bed. I would just put pillows all around. It worked for me...Good Luck!
You can find decently priced toddler beds for like $50.00. Try Target, Jcpenney, Walmart, etc... They like the small areas better, makes it easier to make the change. Babies'R us has the themed ones, princess, race car, Thomas the Train. My daughter was in a toddler bed until about 4 and the only reason we changed is because we had extra furniture from a second home we sold, she could have easily stayed in it another year. I believe that the twin is the way to go both financially and practically. It's also one less transition. Plus, the "big boy bed" is a great motivator as far as he being the big brother etc. Best wishes and enjoy your sweet boys.
i got my son into a toddler bed race car bed in fact i found that one of the neighbors was throwing away, it was in perfect condition! he will be able to use the bed until he is at least 7 then i will get a bunk bed set or a twin bed for him along with new furniture.
We have an almost 21 month old (now) daughter and will be expecting a son in 4 months. We have decided to get another convertible crib for our son-to-be and leave our daughter in the crib as long as possible. When she is ready, we will convert her crib into the toddler bed. At this point, she's not ready to learn to stay in bed and I don't want her to be roaming the house at will! We also don't want her to feel like too much is changing in her life... thus she keeps everything familiar to her while we introduce her brother to her.
It's another option for you... although one you probably already have.

My two children are 1 1/2 yrs apart and when the baby was 1 yr, my daughther had a queen size bed. My son (the baby) would not sleep in his crib because he wanted to sleep beside her. We did that for a while but then the got to the stage where they wanted their own beds. We contemplated twin beds fot your same reason, then we went to Ideal Baby and found toddler beds for $50. I took them there to look at them and the fell in love. The sleep side by side in their little beds and I think because it is close to the ground they are a bit more comfortable.
Essentially it is what is cost effective for you and your family.

my son ethan has been sleeping in a full size bed since he was 2 1/2 yrs old. and just recently went out and bought a captian bed from city furniture. He loves it because it has space for storage or a space for him to hide in, it also comes with 4 drawers and a headboard that he can put his toys, movies...etc....

Congrtas on your second Baby Boy !!!!! I have two boys ( 6 year old & 21 month old) . I personally don't like toddler beds they seem very cute but they are very impractical they grow out of them quickly . I don't like the twin either because it seems small and uncomfortable for me . When my older boy was 2 1/2 I bought him his bedroom suite full size bed . It has worked great for us in the begining I put end barriers in case he would fall .( He never did) . For me a full size bed works best because it has use for a very long time until they leave home to college . Yes it is more expensive for the $$$ is worth it . I got his bedroom suite @ City Furniture they have great prices , you can also check out American Signature Furniture they also have very nice selections , I hope my advice can help you make a decission !!
