Give it a few more days and take another test. Pregnancy test are very good these days. An HCG level is an HCG level. Depending on what type of IUD you have can effect your hormone levels. Some are hormone free others are not. Also know (touchy subject but true); an IUD does not stop conception. It stops implantation. Once in a while a little determined fertilized egg decides it does not care about that "darn IUD" and will implant anyway (those darn little buggers), but for the most part IUDs work well. I do not know what symptoms your body is giving you, but many pregnancy symptoms can present from hormonal shifts in your body on a normal swing. Give it a few days, retest and see what that gives you. Good Luck.

How long have you had your IUD? It can cause irregularity in your periods and it can take some time for it to become your new "normal". Also, IUD increases the risk of ectopic pregnancy. So if you are having pregnancy symptoms and have missed an expected pregnancy, you should call your doctor first thing tomorrow morning.

If you have gone several months without a period and begin to experience abdominal pain, go to the ER.

I have had the Mirena for about 2 years now. My period is almost non-existent, with only a minimal amount of spotting sporadically. Last month out of the blue, I started "feeling pregnant". I dismissed it for several days, but it was pretty bad. So I broke down and bought a pregnancy test. I was super worried I might be pregnant and was jeopardizing the pregnancy since I have an IUD. But, like you the test was negative. I waited several more days and the "symptoms" passed. Then lo and behold, this month same thing! The symptoms weren't as bad, but they were definitely there. So I have decided it is just my new "normal" for my Mirena-modified cycle right now. I don't know if any of that helps you, but I thought I would share my experience. I was not pregnant, but it can happen with an IUD, so if you are still concerned after several days, take another test. You definitely need to see your doctor IMMEDIATELY if you are pregnant, but it might just be a hormone-related symptom of your cycle. That's what it seems to be for me.

If you are prego, it will reveal itself in time. Don't wait on a test to tell you you're pregnant before you start taking care of yourself. Start eating right, exercising, rest as needed and pretend you are pregnant. If you still feel like that after a couple weeks, take the test and ease your mind. If you are not pregnant, then you would just have been 2 weeks healthier than before :-))

Hi A.,

I had my IUD on for 4 years... I cant remember how many sticks I peed on, thinking I was pregnant... The point of the IUD is to trick your body into thinking you are! That's why many stop being menstruated. Just wait a few days, try a different brand or just go to your doctors' for a blood test...
Good luck and hope it all turns out ok!

I had my Mirena for 4 years and didn't have periods, it was great. I had one period out of the clear blue in the spring of '08. It was heavy for one or two days and then about 3 months later, I felt a couple really odd "that's not normal for my body" types of experiences. I took a PG test and it was positive. I went in for bloodwork, since the doctor's office urine test was negative. It showed my hcg levels as just over the mark for pregnancy. They never went up. The pregnancy wasn't viable and I had to have a D&C because the IUD was imbedded in the uterine tissue. The doctor's office had never had that happen to any of their patients, so I'm sure it's not a common thing to happen, but obviously it can be a possibility. Like mentioned before, wait a day or two and try again.

You can schedule a doctor's appointment because if you are, your IUD will have to be removed and if you aren't, you'll have peace of mind.
