The Mini Pill

Hello fellow moms...just wondering if anyone else has gotten pregnant on the Mini Pill?? Or if you know someone that has? After I had my baby girl 6 months ago, my doctor put me on the Mini Pill because she said it was safe to take while I was nursing. I took it every night with my prenatal vitamins and two months later I find out I'm pregnant! I know that the pill is not 100%, but I've been hearing that the MIni Pill may not be as effective as other pills...

What can I do next?

First of all, congratulations! these type of things are so unexpected but are often the biggest blessings.
I'm SO not an advocate of the mini-pill. I also got pregnant while on it when my son was 5 months old, but i didn't know about it until I miscarried. My OBGYN told me I shouldn't ever take it again because obviously it wasn't effective and i'd probably just get pregnant again. So next time, look for alternative measures for birth-control, your doc can give you other ideas. not always as convenient as the (mini) pill but definitely effective. Best of luck!

I am currently taking the mini pill too and am nursing my 4 month old daughter. I took the same mini pill while I nursed my son too. I never had any problems with it. I never got my period either. I know you are supposed to take it almost the exact same time every night (give or take 2 hours). I think that if you skip a dose or are late taking it you are more likely to get pregnant than if you were on a regular birth control pill.

I took it from 6 weeks after the birth until a year later as I was nursing too. I never had a problem, didn't even get my period until I switched to a stronger pill. I think the rythm method is always good to follow even while on medication!!

Hi D.,

I was just wondering? At anytime when you were taking the mini pill did you end up going onto antibiotics? Not everybody is warned but antibiotics cause a side effect of not making the pills effective. My aunt found this out not by her doctor or pharmacist but from her OBGYN. This was a big surprise. My aunt had waited 8 years in between children and was planning on having only 2 children. Well, 3 months after her second delivery, she found out she was pregnant again. Now there are 3 children. 2 of them are 11 months apart.
Just letting everybody know what can happen when you take birth control and antibiotics at the same time.

I was switched to the mini pill from a full dose pill because i had high cholesterol. After about 5 months on the pill we found out we were pregnant with my son who is now 14 months. I wasn't taking the pill at the same exact time everyday at the time of conception because i was in the middle of moving. I was told to take it at the SAME EXACT TIME 1 hour difference could cause the pill to not work. I used the ring while nursing with no problems to my son but that method of birth control made me very hormonal to the point i didn't need it anyway because i didn't want to be touched. No more hormonal birth control for me.
