That Time of Month

Does anyone else feel like they have the flu when they get their period. I feel so lousy this time of month, I can barely function. I can sleep all day and all night,I get a headache, feel achy and depressed. I have discussed with my gyn and have not found a solution - maybe I need a new doctor.

What can I do next?

Yes. Some months worse than others. Sometimes I can barely walk!

The last two days, as tired as I was, I had trouble sleeping so sometimes that's an issue too.

How's your iron levels during your period? Mine drop horribly and that leaves me feeling miserable.

Like you, exhausted and more than irritable. I loose all my spirit and typically feel all around blah. But as others pointed out, by supplementing with iron, b-vitamins and limiting my sugar I have finally been able to kick that feeling.

Hope that helps.

Mine use to be horrible - horrible cramps, tired, heavy bleeding, headaches.
But it got better after I was diagnosed hypothyroid and started taking synthroid daily.

I remember having relatively ugly PMS experiences in college. When I was 23 (28 years ago) I started an exercise program and haven't stopped exercising vigorously several times a week. I haven't had a difficult PMS week since.

I am sorry! I have felt like this several times, and it is always when I have stopped my birth control for some reason. I love the way I don't have these symptoms nearly as much when I use the Nuvaring. Maybe talk to your doc about that? Good luck!

I feel run down when I don't follow my body's urge to slow down during my period. I think it is important to follow our bodies' natural rhythms- we have the most energy during ovulation, and least during our periods. We tend to push ourselves to be linear- to go, go, go all the time, even when we are in a resting phase of our cycle.

Some months are worse than others. I try not to make too much of it, as I know why I'm feeling blah and don't feel the need to advertise on my forehead. Once I told DH, "You know how you were cranky when you kept getting sinus infections every 4-5 weeks? Well, imagine I have a sinus infection or the flu every 28 - 30 days and cut me some slack." Because I usually just muddle through, I felt like I got less sympathy than SD did and eventually it ticked me off to the point of snapping at him. Dairy is supposed to help. For me, being hydrated helps.
