Is It True That Your Cycle Goes Batty Around Age 30? - Arlington,TX

I was complaining to my SIL about my 2 week-long pms and how I am going to the doc about it. She said that it's common around 30 for your cycle to go nutty at this age. I'll be 30 in Dec. I'm going to the doc anyway but I'm wondering if what she said was true. My mom said that she never had a pimple until she was 30...

What can I do next?

yes and this is the ONLY reason why I miss being pregnant. I was pretty much pregnant from 27 until 29 with ONE(!!!) period in between. I got pregnant after my first son at 4 months old. I loved not having a period and now that it is back I am looking forward to menopause (kinda). so many mood swings and I feel like I am only (mentally) normal for like 1 week (maybe) out of the month!

Mine started getting bad after I had my second child (which happened to be at age 30). I nursed for almost a year and got my period back with a vengeance! 7 years, and one more baby later, it's worse than ever!!!!! I have terrible bloating and cramping when ovulating, and this last 2-3 days. Once that's over, it feeds right into PMS symptoms which are terrible. So basically I get one week each month that I feel really good, and the rest is miserable.

Nope...hit 30 a long time ago and no changes....In fact had kids in my 30's and my cycles improved as far as cramping. PMS is still an issue as it has always been for me....Still regular like clockwork :)

Hm. The only "symptom" I had of my cycle is that I'd get a serious craving for spinach and tomato based stuff (spaghetti, but mostly salsa), and the day before I'd get tired and kinda lazy feeling. I had my first son 3 days after my 31st birthday, and I remember feeling "funny" when my cycle resumed after that. My very first pms, where I'd feel a bit gripey or annoyed. I had my second son at 34 and after that, my cycle started being a bit more unpredictable (skipping sometimes, or a couple days off---early OR late), I will now tell my husband or bff "Hey, I'm totally pms'ing right now" because sometimes I feel agitated enough for them to notice and I don't want them thinking it's them). It definitely changed. I don't know if it was an age thing or a hormone change after kids thing, but now I even want to stay away from myself with my pms feelings.....I try hard to pay attention to what's happening so I don't bite someone's head off (I've gone so far as to think "Ok....I'm about to start my cycle....I'm going to put this person on the calendar for 5 days from now and if I still feel this way about them then, I will totally bite their head off!" but I know I can't trust my feelings until we're in the "safe zone" on the calendar).

Now, at nearly 37, I experience cramping that hurts a lot, and feel much more bloated or tender, and my cycle is quite heavy the 2nd and 3rd day. I never had cramps or heavy cycles from age 12 to 35.

Separately, I went to a counselor for the first time when I was 35 and told her that although there'd been some big changes, I didn't have a "reason" for feeling so screwy (just not my normal self), but yet here I am, in her office. She laughed and said that most of her patients (or clients, or whatever) begin counseling in their 30s.

Nope, not for me and I'm in my mid-30's but I'm on birth control so I don't know if that makes any difference. My friend swears her cycle starting going crazy at 40. She's always complaining of bad cramps, heavy cycles, feeling down/moody, etc.

I was regular until my 40's. Now, I'm off a couple of days and may bleed for longer and heavier. 30 seems kind of young for peri menopause, but check with the other women in your family and you'll get a good idea of what you may experience.

I noticed a shift for the worse in PMS and related symptoms around 35. At 30, I was just getting pregnant and I remember feeling not much bloat at all with my periods, or even when I was newly pregnant! Now, I am 38 in two weeks and the PMS can be excruciating some months; not painful necessarily, but tons of bloating, rage, crying spells, food cravings, swelling, etc. It seems to last a good solid 10 days before I even get my period, then once I do it takes a few days for the symptoms to totally go away. Yup, I am in the camp of feeling decent maybe 2 weeks out of the month. Totally sucks! I do think that as we age, our bodies do change in ways... it just has to be that way. 40 should be interesting I guess!

I don't know. I was 29 when I had our firstborn. Then 32 when our 2nd was born, so around 30 I was going through pregnancy and post-partum irregularities. After that, things went back to "normal" until I got close to 40.

Starting around 40 I have had more complaints. I have never had PMS or acne (except acne when I was pregnant) and still don't have acne issues, but boy... the headaches are killing me these days. It is that time of the month now, and I have had a non-stop headache since Tuesday night. And that is becoming pretty typical each month.
I am not a person who gets headaches normally, and until I hit my 40s could probably count on my hands how many times I have taken anything for a headache. These days, I pop advil for a few days every month. :(

Mine didn't go batty till I hit 39. It was that or just the results of not having a period after like 3.5 years (I had one period between my first pregnancies).

I also noticed a bit shift in my mood when I got my period back, but again, I was 39. So no, I don't think 30 is a magic number.

When I was 30, I asked my doctor about a few things that seemed to be different and frustrating and his answer was, "Well, you are 30." Now at 51, I just laugh to myself when I think about how I quizzed others about what they experienced. It doesn't matter how old we are, we are all aging and our body will change. We all have different issues and go through them at different stages. There isn't a set cycle that will tell you what to expect at each age. All of my friends have issues of some sort, and all varied. Just ask the doctor about each issue (instead of your SIL) and listen to his/her comments and suggestions.

My cycle had been every 28 days since I was a teenager. I'm 30 now, and in the past year it has started to fluxuate--anwhere from 25-33 days. FRUSTRATING, especially since we are an NFP-only couple, but it seems to be settling down again at about 29 days.

It is also MUCH heavier, but the cramps aren't as debilitating as they used to be. For a few months I thought my uterus was trying to jump out of my body.

Nope I'm 31 and my cycle is more regular than its ever been. I've always had a pretty much regular cycle, but the past few years have been like clockwork. I don't even get cramps anymore. I used to get mild ones when I was younger but now barely anything. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones:P

I'm 29, 30 in March. Not having the same experience (at least, I wasn't before I got pregnant), but that's probably because I was on birth control.

When I wasn't on birth control, I was getting more acne outbreaks than I had in a decade.

Ugh... aging sucks.
