I taught a dyslexic class for 3 years about 6 years ago. A lot of parents used Scottish Rite Hospital (in Dallas) to do the testing. I think it is free, but there is a waiting list to be tested.
Good luck!

I currently home shool my 9yr old daughter. She's not working at grade level. She should've just finished 3rd grade. Her big struggle has been reading. It's hindered our ability to move forward with anything else. I'm now questioning whether my approach/methods is the issue or if she has learning disabilities.Because we're not in the public school system we don't have the resources other wise available and I don't want to approach them anyhow. Can anyone recommend a private facility that evalutes children for learning disablities? Any personal experiance that you can relate would be appreciated as well. Thanks, B.

The Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas tests for learning disabilities. http://www.tsrhc.org/p_eligibility_information.cfm

Hi B.:
You could also try the Child Study Center in Fort Worth. Really you can use any independent psychologist to perform a full evaluation. It can be covered by your insurance.
Good Luck,
D.
My understanding is that Cook Childrens in Fort Worth also does the testing. I work for the Texas WorkForce and was told to make that referral just a couple weeks ago when someone called us about it.
