They sell covers for your crib at Walmart/Babys'R'Us/Target. My son did the same thing and the covers work wonders!
My nine month old has been chewing on her bed. She has been chewing and getting paint chips in her mouth. Any suggestions? I have no clue on what to do.
Thanks to everyone for their help;.I will be looking for the crib cover.

I assume she is pulling up to standing and chewing on the side rail? This as actually quite common. Most cribs come with a plastic cover on this area to help prevent this. If your crib is older or didn't come with this, perhaps you can add it. Go to the website for your brand of crib and see if you can order it.
The guards they sell for the rails are useless. My 2nd DD did the same thing & we got the guards and she could just pull them off - at less than a year old.
I have no good suggestions because we never did fid a solution that worked. But that DD is 4 now and is fine. Thankfully no lead based paint on that crib. LOL!
R.,
I feel for you. My son started chewing on his bed around 8 or 9 months old.I have tried everything. I asked everyone on mama source about it and got several suggestions. I have moved the bumper guard to the top rail of his bed ( because that is where he chews), and someone had suggested putting material around his crib or purchasing a rail cover. He has always been given several teething toys, but every time he is in his crib he starts chewing on his bed. So, what I do is put him down for naps and bedtime in his playpen and then transfer him to his bed once he's asleep. If I lay him down in his bed to fall asleep he will start chewing. He is now 14 months old and will still try to chew on his crib given the chance.
I just get him out of his bed immediately upon his waking.
I was hoping my son would outgrow it, but he's not yet.
Hopefully you figure out something that works for you and your baby.Good Luck!
You can get a liner at One Step Ahead (onestepahead.com?).
You can also get some teething products that might distract your baby from using the bar on her bed.
It's kind of a standard product. You could probably find this sort of thing at lots of places, like Babies R Us. Apparently lots of babies do this. I don't even know why they bother to paint (or put creepy varnishes on) cribs!!

My daughter started doing this when she was around that age. I just put those plastic cover things on the crib. I can't remember what they are called but they are made specifically for that purpose. She continued to do this through all her teething stages from the time she could stand up and reach it.

Hi R.,
I also found this to be a big problem. It's been a while, but I think the covers didn't help us either--that she just chewed the ends. I think we finally tried duct tape, anti-nail biting stuff (that tastes bad), hanging wooden teethers, maybe even hot sauce (?), but the best thing was to take her out of the crib ASAP when she woke up. Of course, it passes eventually, but it is stressful!
Good luck,
L.
Target and Babies R Us both sell teething guardrails for the cribs.
