What would you recommend to ease the discomfort of teething? Are teething tablets okay to use or should I just continue to use the teething ring and cold towel?

What can I do next?

Hylands Teething tablets are what I use. Just a helpful savings tip...you can get them from Wal-Mart in the vitamin department for $5.97 for 250 count. If you buy them in the baby department or any where else, you pay the same for 125 count bottle. Also, Orajel only makes the gums tough which does take away the pain, however since they are tough, it makes it harder and more painful for the next teeth that come in...a viscous cycle. Good luck.

My DH recommends baby Orajel for pain and a wet washcloth that is partially frozen as a teething ring.

teething tablets, orajel, tylenol - there are lots of options but don't let the little guy suffer.

The Hyland's Teething Tablets are great. I would let my daughter chew on a diluted apple juice soaked wash cloth that had been chilled in the fridge. Those teething food sacks are great, too! I would put frozen banana or whatever fruit in those sacks and let her chew on those. That helped a lot especially when the teething causes them not to want to eat as much. Also, try letting him gum slices of orange. (I would let mine to that at bath time to cut down on the mess hehe) Good luck!

Teething tablets work great for us. We have a happy 7 month old busy baby boy. I can tell a difference in his demeanor within 30 min of taking them. I would personally rather give him the teething tabs than motrin everyday for discomfort. We also use this awesome thing that you can put ice cubes, frozen bananas (his favorite), and other frozen stuff in. It has a handle that is attached to a mesh bag. I'm not sure what the name of it is, but I have even seen them at Kroger. They are around $7 for two of them. Hope this helps! Have a great day!

The Benedryl is a good idea. I used it for my girls and it works. Also helps them sleep also.

Hylands teething tablets are also good. My youngest got a hold of the bottle and managed to eat half the bottle. I freaked and called poison control and they said the tablets are all natural and that even if she ate 2 bottles she would have been fine. Shes now 5 and we didnt have any issues.

Teething tablets worked very well for us. I plan on using them with #2 when he starts teething. Frozen waffles also worked very well. Teething rings and cold towels didn't work too well. She'd take teething rings in the car but no where else. I think it just depends on the child on what will work. Try several different methods and see which one works best for you. Good Luck.

We always used pasifiers. Turn them upside down under running water and squeeze the nipple part then slowly release and let the water go into the nipple then put them in the freezer. Our daughter would chew on the pacifiers that had ice inside the nipple when she was teething and it was the only thing that really helped her. She would not eat the natural tables no matter how I tried to give them to her. We didn't giver her any medican either. Just keep her gums cold and busiy.

Motrin vs Tylenol, ask your nurses about dosage on Motrin, it reduces the swelling and the Hyland's tablets. Most pedis advise against Orajel because it can interfere with their gag reflex.

Tylenol will relieve the pain. Also, another mom suggested ice cubes. Do not use anything frozen, it can damage the delicate gums of your baby.

I love the tablets. When my children are little, I just make sure that they are upright, and I watch till the tablets dissolve. It does not take very long at all. Nothing else really worked for us. Our 6th child is 2 1/2 months, and we will use them again for him. Blessings

L.,
Teething tablets are the ONLY thing that worked on my kids when they were teething. The relief was almost instant each time i used the tablets.

Teething tablets are a life saver. We used them from about 6 months through two years with our boys (on and off) and never had any problems with them.
I noticed at first, my boys would be a little sleepy, but that could have just been from the pain relief and not the pills. It seemed to pass pretty quickly and helped them get them back on their schedules. And they are much better than the gels, in my opinion.

Good luck!

The best thing I ever did was rub Benedryl on the spot where they are teething. My mother in law is the one that told me about it and at first I was scared to do it but it worked.

I second the recommendation for hyland's teething tablets. They're homeopathic, and kids can't OD on them (not that you should give too many, but you also don't need to stress about constantly keeping your kid drugged). I would recommend AGAINST the orajel stuff, as it made DD choke (and it was terrifying!), 'cuz it numbed her mouth so much she couldn't function normally. You can also roll up and freeze baby washcloths to chew on (works better for back teeth than a teething ring), or, when you're supervising closely, a big, peeled but uncut carrot to chew on (not a baby carrot, which can cause choking, but the real, old-school kind we had growing up, which is too big for a baby to bite through). GL!
